Dancing on the Green proposes weekly youth dances in city
A group of six local men plan Saturday dances on the Green platform using the Nanaimo Band. They seek owners' consent and a nominal fee, charging 10 cents per dance or 50 cents for the evening, with temperance drinks and order. Proceeds would pay musicians and rent, aiming to offer a harmless social outlet away from Salvation Army offerings, inspired by eastern peers. Victoria Happenings notes Admiral Heneage receiving Behrings Sea orders for June 16 and fleet prep at Esquimalt.
