Notice announces a meeting of petition subscribers to form the Nanaimo Board of Trade. Friday May 3 at 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Incorporation certificate received from Ottawa. full attendance required. Marcus Wolfe, secretary pro tem.
Notice that 30 days after date an application will be made to the Chief Commissioner of Lands and Works for leases to timber tracts around Central Lake and nearby lakes in the Alberni District Vancouver Island. Boundaries describe stakes on lake shores with multiple claims across north and south sides, detailing compass directions and chain measurements. Names T. W. Patterson and M. H. Cowan appear as claimants with Victoria BC filing date April 20 1889 and May 1 Im.
Washington May 3 Sir Julian Paunceforte the new British minister presented credentials to President and pledged to advance peaceful relations and mutual goodwill. The event occurred during the Washington Centennial observances and featured Blaine’s formal presentation at the White House.
In a city case before Mayor Bate J 1 a young man was discharged after convincing the court the horse acted independently on the Long Bridge. Two youths on Enoch Sage's mules without leave cried and promised to return to school. Jorge McDonald, held as an accomplice to a hotel theft, remains remanded until Tuesday the 7th.
A young sugar refinery employee at PACTEIC Coast News reports that Funke was caught in portion of the machinery this afternoon. He suffered severe injuries and is expected to die. Authorities investigate the incident.
A U S grand jury indicts Jno Quaile for attempting to smuggle 65 tael boxes of opium from the Rio de Janeiro. Customs seize nine boxes of cigars hidden in orange crates from Mazatlan on the San Blas. The undersigned announces retirement from business and requests all debtors to settle accounts by June 80 proximo. Unpaid accounts after that date will be referred to an attorney for collection. Creditors are urged to present claims by the specified date. Harvey Nanaimo April 19 89.
