Hallowe'en Dinner Honors Nakusp Community

Hallowe'en was celebrated in Nakusp with a formal dinner at Hotel Nakusp. Guests included Mohun chairing, Smitheringale vice chair, and other local figures. Speeches toasted the Queen and local groups while songs and cheers followed, ending with Auld Lang Syne as Mohun and Jordan were escorted to Revelstoke gaol.

Escapee A Littlejohn Recaptured After River Chase

Word reached that A Littlejohn, who fled from gaol two weeks ago, was located by Officer Fauquier and Deputy Dawson near Robson. They pursued by rowboat, found him on shore at dawn, and returned him to his lodging. Littlejohn had supplies in his boat and planned to head toward Uncle Sam’s domains.

The Goodenough Fraction Mining Controversy in Spokane Region

Glass of Spokane claims the Purcell dairy ground overlaps Idaho No. 2 and belongs to him after a flawed assessment. Meanwhile Thompson and partners discover a four foot galena ledge on the Goodenough claim, staking over Purcell land. Three men work the Goodenough with 10 tons of ore on the dump and plan winter shipping, anticipating no lawsuit with Glass.

Ore Shipments Rise From Three Forks Railhead

Ore shipments from Three Forks rise as the Stocan Star carries 50 tons daily toward the Grant Omaha smelter in Omaha. An estimated 800 tons remain at the storehouse with 1000 more from the mine planned for winter. Other properties including Alano Idaho Noble Five Cumberland and Surprise prepare to ship. Local shipments total about 250 tons valued around 25000 with Trail Creek mines sending Le Roi Josse and Gold Hill to Tacoma and Everett. District ore value for October nears 48000.

Mining News Update from the Slocan District Claims

Claims on Kaslo and Slocan creeks push forward with surveys and development. JIL Ritchie and J Dugan report gold shipments from Forty-nine creek while Camerson Bros. of Kaslo ship ore from Woodbury creek. Antoine Gretzette and partners own six Kaslo claims as crews test the Antoine. The Bluebell mine on Kootenay lake uses a primitive concentrator with ore yielding two and a half to one. Colonel Peyton and C Vader arrive at Burton City to test Cariboo creek samples. Briggs Bros of Minnesota operate eleven Kaslo creek claims with the Ben Hur tunnel begun and ore assays from 92 to 202 ounces silver. Surrounded by road access, the Surprise claim near Noble Five ships up to 300 tons this winter.
