Major Eugene Laird Return From Japanese Camp

Major Eugene Laird son of Joe Laird and the late Mrs Laird of Myrtle Point was released from a Japanese prison camp on September 8 per a War Department telegram. He had been held since the Philippines conquest at Zentsuji camp on Shikoku Island. He is in fairly good health with no details given. He attended Myrtle Point High School and University of Oregon Law School, later working in law, utility regulation, and as a reserve officer. His wife resides with her parents in Portland awaiting his return. He will be 38 in October. He has a sister in Myrtle Point and two brothers in Lebanon and Springfield. an uncle in Coquille.
