Chief Lewis Floyd stated the Myrtle Point Postoffice was burglarized between August 26 and September 9 with over 20000 dollars in checks and cash taken. Authorities identified several teenage boys who exploited a defective bank box lock and are pursuing leads in the case.
Fire and police converged at a bank area and recovered about 13560 in checks from Branch of First National Bank including deeds abstracts Social Security and veteran pension checks all marked for deposit only. Officials say loss cannot be verified until depositors check statements and credits and it may take a month to confirm.
