34th County Fair draws 10 000 people amid amateur show surge

The 34th Coos County Fair drew about 10 000 attendees over three days with strong crowds on Saturday Sunday and Monday. Myrtle Grange won community exhibit top prize while McKinley Grange placed second. Highlights included 160 saddle horses grand entry 112 riders Saturday 140 Sunday and 16 Monday with multiple riding clubs performing.

Water Restored After Drought As Show Rides Continue

Restrictions lifted for a twelve hour period in July restored full water supply and revived lawns. The event featured prominent races such as the ladies express won by Charlotte Smith and Carol Bertalline, and the men's express won by Esop King and Dick Hurt. Horse judging honored Bam Roderick on H. F. Coolen's mount, with others placing in saddle and bronc events.

Cannery to Run Three Day Week for Patrons

The Cannery will operate on a three day week with patrons allowed to collect their cans within the week time limit. If not collected, transfers and storage arrangements may be made due to limited storage space, stated Mr. Kirech.

Fire destroys 160 acres of slash and logs near Elkton

A fire in the Raper area burned over 160 acres of slash and two loads of logs, with one donkey engine and another donkey saved. The fire’s origin is thought incendiary. Crews from the Elkton area camp, fire patrol, and logging company watched the trail and checked new blazes on Tuesday as operations neared wrap up in a few days.
