School district 41 reports total enrollment of 1464 on the first day. Crest lists 406 students, Spruce 131, Sitkum 6, high school 458. Grade totals show varied counts across grades with 6th grade at 1298, 10th grade 198, and 12th grade zero.

Coos county home extension advisory committee members lead an officers training meeting scheduled for today September 5 from 9 30 a m to 2 p m at the Coquille community building junior auditorium. Mrs Everette Webber and others will brief on duties of chairman vice chairman secretary and treasurer. Mrs Allen Evems chair narrates the skit My Dream of a Chairman with all committee members participating. Webber explains the Association Country Women of the World program and Mrs Marvin Young will show slides from her Luxemburg visit last year.
Georgia-Pacific employees and their wives attended a safety banquet at the Myrtle Hotel Friday evening. The event honors crews who completed 60 days without an accident, recognizing their commitment to safe operations.

Chief Lewis Floyd warned motorists on Highway 48 at Spruce and Harris streets that school crossings will be patrolled and citations issued for failure to yield. He cited first days of school as hazardous as drivers adjust from summer speeds. AAA posters remind drivers to drive carefully.
