A massive rock and earth slide on the Neely hill west of Mapleton endangers the Roosevelt Highway and the railroad below. Crevices form up to four feet wide as the hillside shifts. officials fear a rainy season collapse that could cost $100,000 and delay the Sinaloa highway by about a year.
Mr and Mrs W R Pahl hosted heir guest J J Young of San Francisco. En route, Young’s car overturned after being forced off the highway by a drunken driver who fled as he crawled from the wreck. The crash occurred near Red Bluff during a Sunday trip with the Pahls and Mrs Maude Ellis to Port Orford.
The Eddie Brain family of Myrtle Point knew Oscar Daley, deputy sheriff and game warden, who was murdered at Marcola last week. The two families lived as neighbors in Hillsboro until a few years ago.
Edward A. Huebner reports a major find on the Golden Cloud mining property near the South Lines River in southwestern Oregon. Two visitors from Los Angeles and San Francisco offered bonding and royalties, but were refused. The five ledge claims include a 60 by 35 foot cut with ore samples showing gold, silver, and lead potential, near wood, water, and a 22 foot waterfall, seven miles from transport.
Gurney High School student William Gurney of Myrtle Point Oregon is listed among fifty students receiving class honors in a Valparaiso University scholarship program for the second semester of 1929 1980. He completed the freshmen year in liberal arts with a 2.2 scholastic standing. The university notes its Lutheran layman control and full accreditation by the Evangelical Lutheran Synodical Conference of North America.
Mise Dulcie Foote daughter of Mrs. AL Powrie enrolled this week at Union High School as a junior, moving from Coquille High School.
Early Tuesday a blaze on Spruce street in Myrtle Point trapped George Rogers on his roof. Firemen used the Chemical engine and new pumper to control flames within minutes, saving lower rooms and injuring two firefighters. Rogers escaped with minor injuries after jumping from the porch. The city faced delays in alarm timing and questions about telephone service.
Garland Shull waved in greeting near Remote Monday and drove the Chevrolet into a bridge support. The new truck broke badly and was towed to Southwestern Mocor garage in Coquille for repairs.
The local grange moves its Tuesday 16th meeting to Friday the 12th with state master Rev. C C Hunet expected to attend. Jacque Holloway travels to Corvallis for Oregon State College and will work at the confectionery after school. She is praised as a self made girl who earned her way through high school and now through college.

By Tuesday his condition prompted Clark Feaster to bring Mrs. Ross and her children to Myrtle Point to the Veateh home for care. Dr. Mastie attends, with Mise Watkins as nurse. Temperature around 101 but improvement hoped.
