A Myrtle Point party hunted near the Ochecs W National park in Eastern Oregon last week and took eight mule deer. The group includes Bud Bell, Marty Branson, Gerald Lillie, Barney Bell, Mrs Bud Bell, Casey Bell, Keith Bell, Vernon Barklow, W L Bell, and LeRoy Anderson. Mrs W L Bell joined but avoided the camera. Barklow shot the big buck and Anderson brought home the five pointer.
Notice of a District Masonic meeting at Port Orford Lodge on Saturday October 18. Worshipful Master Dale Elliott and other officers will attend. Masons urged to be present.

Community Chest funds from the 1951 drive are on hand with earmarked amounts for the community building project. The drive netted 1665.85 with allocations to State Chest Salvation Army Drive expenses and a welfare fund. Welfare payments covered Christmas needs drugs for the needy an emergency trip for a veteran’s wife and a hotel meal for a traveling family. An outright gift supported a family burned out. Also reported were travels of Mr and Mrs Ray Epperson to Tillamook Eugene Cottage Grove and university enrollment of Ben and Dick Briggs.
Five hundred head of commercial feeder and stocker cattle will sell at auction in Corvallis on November 12. The sale, organized by the Oregon Cattlemen’s Association, features Herefords, Angus, and Shorthorns from eastern Oregon, including calves and yearlings bred two-year-olds. TB and Bangs tested breeding cattle will be included. Don Driscoll and family travel to Idaho for a visit and hunting trip after.
Lewis Knight reports the Red Cross Bloodmobile will stop in Myrtle Point on Thursday October 30 from 1 30 to 5 30 p m. Registration sites include City Oil and Fuel Billingsley Huggins City Cash Grocery with listed phone numbers. Committee heads announced for Canteen Nurses aides Typing and General Work and Registration Chairman Della Belloni.
Coos county will start the school census on October 25 listing all residents ages four to nineteen. Last year the census counted 12 453 with a rise of 1210 from the year before and an expected similar increase for 1952. The seven year totals show rapid growth in school population influencing November education measures.
John Roosevelt son of the late Franklin D. Roosevelt campaigns for Dwight D. Eisenhower and will speak in Los Angeles on Thursday night October 23. The item also notes a hunting trip by Earl and Harry Thornton in Eastern Oregon with their catch sizes.
