Coos County Leads Cow Testing Program Across State

Coos County reports the highest number of cows in testing and the strongest average daily production. The Coquille valley and Coos Bay associations show robust herds with several herds producing substantial fat and butterfat in August. Local testers include Charles Leatherman of Coquille and Pred Bessay of Marshfield with bands across Coos, Curry counties.

Land Grant Funds Ready Soon Face County Remittances

A Washington note says 50 percent of the Oregon and California land grant allotment will be remitted to counties, totaling about $14 9589, with the remaining 89 percent to follow as funds become available. The act funds roads and schools in coastal counties, facing new interpretations by the comptroller of the currency.

The high school booster drive offers season tickets at two dollars for all games. Football season tickets grant entry to 140 dollars worth of home games and cost 135 dollars. A practice sweat shirt awaits any boy who sells three complete season tickets or five football season tickets. The first game is Saturday at the local field against North Bend.

Accidental Wagon Crush Hurts Gravelford Man

J G Bingham of Gravelford was pinned under a wagonload of wood at his ranch on Monday. The wagon overturned while he worked alone, leaving him unconscious and badly bruised with mashed legs but no broken bones or internal injuries. He was moved to his home after medical treatment.

Cheer Leader Named For Football Season

After Friday’s student body meeting Earl Party was chosen cheer leader for the football season. Coach Felper Rickard announced Tuesday morning that games will be visible from the grandstand and teacher supervision ensures safe student viewing. The judges stand will be moved to improve line of sight and a clear area will be kept for the cheer leader to rally school spirit.

Popular couple wed yesterday in Norway ceremony

Miss Marguerite Nocotine and Darrell Brodie married at 8:00 last night at the home of the bridegroom's parents in Norway. The ceremony, performed by Rev E V Ostrander, was witnessed by 17 relatives and friends on the groom’s golden anniversary day.

Lions Back Local High School Football Team

The Myrtle Point Lions Club met at Hamm's Cafe to go on record in support of the high school football team. They will buy season tickets, appoint a committee to plan winter projects, and coordinate season activities. Twenty Lions attended. W. H. Holmes and Eilis Dement were among the evening’s guests.

Byrnes Opens Myrtle Point Service Station Lease

William H. Byrnes, formerly of Eugene, arrives in Myrtle Point to take over the Spruce and Fourth streets service station leased from a large oil company. The University of Oregon alumnus and former Stone Lake Wisconsin teacher promises good service and facility upgrades. Mitchell Myers, who ran the station, left for Portland to discuss future with the company, with Zumwalt also undecided.

Elk River Woman Dies In Night Driving Crash

Mrs. Sarah Abbott of Bandon died when lights failed on Elk River road near RL Wagner ranch. Her car left the road and plunged down a steep embankment. She was in her 60s, survived by two sons and two daughters. Body at Schroeder Funeral Home in Bandon with no funeral arrangements yet.

Harold W Summers and Ada Earle of Powers were married on Friday and hosted a charivari that evening. Summers, long employed at Coos Bay Lumber, is well known in Powers, while Mrs Summers has spent most of her life there.

Fall Injury Reported In Powers Roof Shingling Incident

Jim Boone sustained a fall of eight to nine feet from a bungalow roof in Powers at 145 this afternoon. The Coos Bay Lumber Company ambulance transported him to a bay hospital. Executives say he likely suffers only severe bruises and shock.

Gaylord Women To Study Sewing

Gaylord community club will hold a special meeting in the community hall October 12 from 10:00 p m to 4:00 p m. Mrs Azalea Sager will conduct sewing demonstrations with fabric remodeling and pattern work. Members and other local women are urged to attend and bring garments and sewing tools.

Grown lit cucumber and dwarf apple displayed this week

A five year old daughter of Mrs. Frank L. showcased a cucumber weighing three and a half pounds with a 13 inch length while a dwarf apple from Catharine Strong’s ranch measures 1415 inches around. Port and Neirald Window hosts the display as Portland papers feature the Coos farm exhibit.

Weather notes an unprecedented Sumday high for October 1 with 33 degrees reported unofficially. Monday was two degrees cooler, Tuesday matched Monday’s high as gardens revive after recent rains and warmth.
