Ralph Kring presented slides of Mesa Verde National Park to the Myrtle Point Lions at the Myrtle Hotel last evening. The images were captured by Mr and Mrs Kring during a Colorado vacation last summer and include shots from central and eastern Oregon Idaho and Utah.
Everett Washington resident Jim Davis retired after 49 years with West Coast Telephone Company. He spent the weekend with his niece and nephew at their home in Everett and visited his sister Golda Huff and sister-in-law Arthur Snyder before heading to Roseburg and Medford to see more relatives including a 93 year old uncle. In Coos County he saw Uncle Joe Davis in North Bend, a 91 year old who still does his own housework.
Myrtle Point Saddle Club members joined Broadbent Juvenile Grange for an amateur rodeo at Ralph Gibbs home on Rhoda Creek featuring wild cow milking calf roping riding and a boxing match plus a clown entertainment. Nearly one hundred attended the dinner with families from Myrtle Point including A M Christensen Bert and Mrs Brewster Dickie Barklow Karem and Herbert Warner.
C Roberts announces a new partner joining the firm after forty years of operation. E C Roberts has expanded his boxing and real estate activities. the change moves the office to the Merritt Center building in Bandon with Harry Gamble handling local affairs.
About eighty Safeway workers and relatives attended the annual picnic at Coos River School on Sunday afternoon. Attendees included staff from Myrtle Point Coquille Coos Bay and North Bend stores.
Firemen answered a grass blaze west of Fourth Street on lots owned by E A Dodge and spreading to Ben Shields yard and an orchard owned by the Wright family. No serious damage beyond smoke. Earlier a timber fire east of town showed notable headway.
Mr. and Mrs. Chris Meller resided in this city for one year. He married Georgia May in 1990 in San Pedro California. Surviving are his wife Georgia, a son David age 8, his parents Mr and Mrs Chris Meller of this city, and a sister Mrs Elsie Downey of San Francisco California.
Monthly union services of Myrtle Point churches are scheduled next Sunday evening at the Methodist church. Services begin at 7 30 with Rev W A Briggs delivering the sermon and Rev Richard Cochran leading the song service. A cordial invitation is extended for all to attend on World Wide Communion Sunday.
Rex Billingsley of the Billingsley Huggine Insurance Agency announces a new office in the Herald Building at 410 Spruce Street. The agency has operated insurance business in town for many years.
Odd Fellows and Rebekahs announce a program on October 12 with Mr Moore noting a rain plan. If weather interrupts at the hall the event will be moved to the group’s hall for an evening gathering.
Terril Cooper of Portland, a 1937 Union High School graduate, will join Schroeder Mortuary in Myrtle Point. He studied mortuary science in San Francisco and has worked at Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland. Denver Greer remains as assistant mortician.
