Arago Oregon September 30 The Arago 4H club boys and girls won judging cattle and poultry at the county fair last Friday The cattle team included Melden Carl Pike Schroeder and Laura Milani The poultry team included Iola Bison Laura Milani and Royce Paull They later left for Salem with RM Knox to compete at the state fair Melden Carl received a call for outstanding club work from George Hampton local dairy man T B MacDonalds building a new house and Orvus Miller helped with Levy visit and church events noted in Arago community columns.
Mr and Mrs Henry A Schroeder of Schroeder furniture store announce open house at their new home on Rail road avenue opposite the Presbyterian church next Friday and Saturday October 2 and 3 in the afternoon and evening. In a noon crash south of the Norway store, Charles Swigart and Kenneth and Eilis Button were injured when their car collided with a Norway ship car. Swigart suffered facial cuts. Phillip Barry shot his wife and then tried to take his own life last night. The wife was wounded in the temple area and is reported in critical condition at Mast hospital. Barry, 52, grazed his temple with a self inflicted wound and is in the facility. The couple has six children and family trouble followed a dispute when Mrs. Barry rented an apartment in town.
Hiram Hatcher learned his son Henry was shot in the stomach while guarding railroad cars in Tucumcari New Mexico. The World War veteran died two hours after arrival at El Paso hospital. He left a wife and two young children.
Beginning the first of the month the Union High School class interior decorating under Miss Gertrude Sick will oversee displays in Schroeder Furniture store window. The display is divided into three sections five in each. Judges will select the finest exhibit and the winning section will receive a prize.

The Emmett Hammock home on Twin Oaks road was entered Saturday evening while the family were at the county fair. Alma Larkins and Wilda Beckett contributed to a birthday box. Mrs Lett taught Bible class in R S Luttrell’s absence. Kimbell preached nightly last week. services continue this week. Next Sunday is Wm Barnett’s regular appointment. Charles M Parker with Frank Hall and Brooks Hall of Roseburg were in town Saturday.
Myrtle Creek resident J J Hollum traveled to Coquille and Myrtle Point seeking to recover firearms from Albert Nelson and to check mining claims along the South Sixes River. Nelson allegedly possessed a pistol and a rifle. Sheriff’s office in Coquille was busy with liquor arrests, hindering Hollum’s pursuit.
In Coquille a group of youths caused a disturbance at a county jail region. Several were involved after a trap appeared near a market area and liquor was found in transit. Authorities secured the scene and began an inquiry into the incident.
