A battered Myrtle Point Bobcats lose 13 to 0 to Coquille in a gusty opening day game. Myrtle Point’s injuries and turnovers hampered any rally as Coquille scores in the second and fourth quarters, with Newton and Bailey contributing drives and Druliner breaking for a long TD.
Lieutenant Burr Monrad of Myrtle Point was named distinguished cadet at Gulf Coast Military Academy for the first six weeks with a 93 general average and first in the senior class. He was the sole student with a solid geometry exam graded beyond plus or minus and scored 9 on a quiz. He will serve on the staff as cadet adjutant for the rest of the year.
Mrs. Rachel Hoffman Greig of Oakland and Miss Mary G Harris shared a pleasant luncheon and social afternoon at Harris’s home on Orange Street in Oakland. The piece notes a long friendship and mentions a period on the Dement place with several unreadable lines.

Byron Van Alstein, 12, son of Mr and Mrs HC Van Alstein of Bridge, fell on concrete steps during lunch and suffered a deep chin gash. He was taken to Mast hospital where three stitches were required to close the wound.
Marshfield crushed North Bend 41 to 0 to solidify first place as Coquille rose to fourth with a 13 to 0 win over Myrtle Point. North Bend and Bandon jockey for second while Myrtle Point and Coquille eye key weekend clashes at Coquille and Bandon.
The Garden club gathered Tuesday night at Henry Schroeder’s residence with Mrs. E V Ostrander directing the program. Mrs C E uling spoke on chrysanthemum growing, Ostrander read on sundew, and a poem titled The Burdock was read. Sum erlin led a discussion on Yregen grape transplant methods. Refreshments followed. The next meeting will be at C E Hui ng’s home with Mrs Verne Lundy as program chairman.
McKinley CCC eleven fell 7 to 0 to Bandon despite a rough, low-scoring game. A player suffered a double leg fracture and is hospitalized in Roseburg. Next game scheduled against Coquille camp this Sunday at Coquille.
A Gravelford community dance Saturday night marks the start of the winter season with promised good music. Residents and dancers are urged to attend for an evening of local entertainment.
Elmer Sargent age 14 sustained a serious eye injury from a misplaced firecracker explosion while playing with Arthur and John Wise at the Al Rice home in Baner City. The blast broke a blood vessel and injured the iris, prompting treatment at Knife hospital in Coquille with hope of saving the eye.
The fourth annual Bandon Poultry Show will run Friday to Sunday December 8 9 and 10. Show rooms are in the Radley building west of the Westland hotel. Directors report near doubling of entries over 1930 and expect thousands of visitors.
Sunday morning collision at Chaney crossing left a Ford coupe owned by Cleo Weekly wrecked against a Chevrolet battery truck owned by W C Bryant of Bridge. Neither driver was injured and both sides agreed to cover their own repair costs.
Alfred Strong 16 the son of Leslie Strong of Gaylord sustained a broken lumbar vertebra in a Myrtle Point High School football scrimmage. He was kicked in the back during a Wednesday practice game and admitted to Mast Hospital this morning for treatment.
The Woman's club invites the public to a book shower at their next meeting on Monday afternoon November 27 to benefit the Myrtle Point library. Citizens unable to attend are urged to donate books through any club member during National Book Week.
Joe F McHenry proprietor of Mac's Auto Repair in this city closed a deal for Hooker's Garage in Coquille. He will move equipment this week to the junction of the Roseburg and coast highways and operate a gasoline service station with general repair and storage. He has earned a reputation for good conscientious automobile service and expects strong patronage in the county seat.
A preliminary meeting at the schoolhouse drew 17 Bridge women to support forming a local Woman's Civic Club. Officers were elected: Mrs William Weekly president, Mrs Ray Beckett vice president, Mrs Harold Laswell chairman, and Mr Charles Johnson secretary treasurer. A constitution committee was named and a November 28 meeting set to aid Thanksgiving programs.
Ned C. Kelley acts as agent with power of attorney to file a uniform tariff with the Oregon Public Utilities Commission for all coast district operators north to Florence. Local rates will unify, some commodities rise, but the public gains from a single, uniform tariff covering all operators. The bureau will operate from 383 South Taylor Street in Coquille, Oregon.
The Myrtle Point Woman's Club hosts a See America First excursion and dinner tomorrow evening. Twenty passengers depart from the depot at 5:30 with trains every half hour to Plymouth Massachusetts Santa Fe New Mexico and Long Beach California. Tickets cover travel meals and stopovers with exhibits and books featured at a stop to celebrate National Book Week and raise funds for library pledges.
Oregon drivers will receive more than 360 000 reminder letters as auto license renewals open. Private passenger cars may renew for 6.00 for the year and plates mailed from Salem to arrive by December 15. A November 27 drawing will assign low license numbers, with no special numbers issued.
Auto wreck occurred on the Roseburg road in front of the Gus Dietz place when Mrs Hillis glanced away from the road. The car veered toward the upper side and stopped before the 30 foot grade. Occupants Mrs Roy Garrett Liza fet Hillis and daughter Benice of Powers escaped with only a slight shaking up. Vehicle towed for repairs.
Oliver Myers of Arago escaped unharmed when a bridge stringer failed as he hauled a load for Tyrrell Woodward. The falling load dragged the truck into the creek before it was towed to a repair shop.
4-H club activity program drafted as Three clubs organized under Mrs Shull for upper grades. Forestry clubs led by Mr Klockente ger and Mr Summers with most pupils enrolled. Girls Glee club formed for upper grade girls led by Mrs Abel. Officers named for each group.
Coaledo drainage district No 11 directors met at Coquille city hall and approved an assessment of 1.50 per acre on all lands to pay outstanding bonds and interest.
Local radio audition winners were named at the Hiland theater Mae Endicott performed Shadow Waltz with Mrs. Glen Neideigh Tom Draper played a harmonics number and West Coast Special Durward Crishner accompanied by Mrs. Merwin Moller Other participants included Jo Deuliner Norma and Ww Feterse Vincent Ant and Ed Myers The Myrtle Point winners performed at Coquille theater then Marshfield and will appear on KEX at 4 15 They advance to Portland for a final contest with prizes including trips to Los Angeles San Francisco and vaudeville contracts
Ernest H. Norris moved his grocery this weekend to a building owned by RE. A. Dodge, previously occupied by the Furniture Exchange. The new site provides lighter, more commodious quarters and ample rear storage facilities.
