Powers district forest ranger Don Stickney called Friday to provide data for the Chamber of Commerce booklet. He urged sports and inside commercial fishermen to unite and push an action plan to force outside fishers to fish beyond the Smile Limit, allowing saloon fishers to spawn in fresh-water streams. An Oregon editorial urges the Public Utilities Commission to deny any Greyhound passenger rate increase until Southern Coos County, including Myrtle Point and Coquille, receives decent service. It cites poor connections and high local express rates and calls for local Chamber action to push for better service or franchise reassignment.
Chamber of Commerce will host Dr Ralph Milne as guest speaker at the Monday noon meeting. Milne is described as a public speaker of modest reputation and attendees are urged to be present. dinner is served at 61.38.
Webb Mast, a long time Lee District resident and Mooring area pioneer, died Monday at age 72. He came to the Lee Valley with his parents as a child in 1872 and married Bessie Dernberger in Portland on June 14, 1966. Survived by widow Bessie, daughter Mrs Carey Bones, sons Ben and Hollis, one grandchild Daniel Webb, one brother Hardy Mast, and other relatives. He was not a Knights Templar member but was a Shriner.
Obituary notice for a Pioneer member of Myrtle Lodge No. 78 A F and A M who died at his Lee home. The scene notes his son Hollis congratulating him on receiving an 80 year pin at a Masonic lodge meeting in October 1948 and a wall displays past masters’ photos.

Coos Curry Horsemen announce annual meet at Myrtle Point on Wednesday June 13 to finalize the August fair program. Last year’s turnout pleased the community and the fair dates are August 16 to 18 with a strong call for late participants to attend and help shape the schedule. Mr Dement urges attendance to confirm plans.
In a House floor speech Ellsworth urges approving a grain loan to India to avert starvation, recalling 1947 Europe aid and stressing the benevolent policy. He cites timber access roads bill awaiting full committee action and warns economy drives may delay passage.
In western Oregon and Washington tree farms boost both timber and game. Deer elk and bear thrive in young growing forest areas with grass and feed between trees, while old growth yields little game. First 1949 harvest data show 53 705 hunters killed 4 565 deer 1 109 elk and 132 bears on tree farms across five million acres west of the Cascades.
Large crowd witnesses the graduation of the Class of 51 as scholarships are awarded to Marilyn Greene Frank May and Charlie Bing ham. Dr MecColl urges lifelong education and character building. Senior Class President Frank May leads as a $200 football scoreboard fund is pledged by Bill Brooks.
James H. Cuthbert and Max J. Edwards of Salem Ore have purchased the Deyton laundry and intend to convert and modernize it with a 51000 plan to start operations soon. Both men are experienced in laundry and dry cleaning and promise service to the people of Salem. They expect to open in the near future but have not announced a grand opening.
Wallace Dement delivers commencement address as 88 seventh and eighth graders receive diplomas at the new school auditorium. Decorations feature room mothers and Mrs Weed with Mrs Cupinski directing. Names listed include Arlene Barzee Lois Creighton Betty Cunningham Claudia Cupinski Helen Grant Dorothy Huffman and others.
