An interesting meeting of the VFW was held in the city hall while the Auxiliary met in the VFW hall. Plans are under way for portable petitions to enable both groups to meet in the same building on the same night. After the business session the ladies served cake strawberries and coffee to the members.

Methodist Church Plans Anniversary in Myrtle Point

June 17 marks the 43rd anniversary of Methodist work in Myrtle Point Lat tere. Former members abroad have been invited to attend or send letters. Morning service features Willamette Concert Company music and the pastor’s farewell sermon. A banquet follows with greetings and roll call. The evening offers a concert by Willamette Concert Company, with Oregon Philharmonic choir alumni from last year’s Century of Progress Fair.

How The Siskiyou National Forest Got Its Name

A 19th century trek by Chief Factor Archibald McLeod through the California Oregon frontier inspired the name Siskiyou. A snowstorm scattered horses including the chief’s bob tailed mare. the mountain notch became Siskiyou Pass from a Cree term. By 1908 the federal forest reserve carried the name across the region. The story ties to early exploration, settlement, and the coast Siskiyou ranges chronicled in local history.

Nominating Petition Filed for High School Board Director

Meeting Woman's Club elects officers for new year

The Myrtle Point Woman's Club held its last meeting of the year electing officers for the coming year.
