The Lions Club plans a Boy Scout fund drive for Tuesday June 8 starting at 7 30 am with a break fast and two teams led by Curtis Beckham and Lee Powell to solicit donations from business and residents. Edna Maud Ellis aged 50 died at her Myrtle Point home Wednesday. Born March 16 1884 in Cedarville California she was the daughter of James Robert Greene. Survived by three sons J W Ladd Seattle Robert C Ladd Terre Haute and Charles Ellin overseas with the armed forces two brothers R O Greene Napa and Jas R Greene Myrtle Point and four grandchildren.
Dean Helpik Resentent reports the Myrtle Point Future Farmers grown through a hotbed program. Three thousand plants including tomatoes cabbage celery Brussels sprouts and cauliflower were distributed to members without charge during the month. Chapter members learned proper soil prep and trade practices while supporting eased food production under chapter advisor Ted Kirch.

Melvin H Barklow has been named auditor and personnel manager for Bremera Furniture Co in Oakland California after graduation in 1984.
The farm security administration dairy cattle incentive in Coos County ends June 3 after a season that saw 470 calves purchased and shipped to feeding stations in Oregon and neighboring states. Calves 10 days old and dairy bred were bought at Coquille for $10 each, with local dairymen earning about $5,000 as breeders faced delivery and breed challenges. BE Hughes of Grants Pass supervised the program.

Promoted to corporal Earl L Knox stationed at Bowman Field Louisville Kentucky received word his wife is the daughter of Mrs Alorie and employed elsewhere. Tech Sergeant Robert Lundy from Hawaii is feeling well and helped another. Russell Dement son of Mr and Mrs Bilis Dement not inducted due to physical disabilities stationed Camp Roberts California. Lieutenant Milton Bell arrived from Riverside California for a short leave visiting his father then returned to duty. Cadet in army group son of Mr and Mrs Joe W Huff Bridget. William Huff son of Mr and Mrs Henry Huff of New York left here last November and now believed on active duty with a unit for the North Pacific fleet.
Mr and Mrs Willard R Witte welcome a daughter Margaret Ann born May 20 at Portland Sanitarium. The Whitneys lived in the Lee district for years, daughter of J E Wood Catching Creek. Elis Dement and wife attended Cattlemen's Convention in Burns Oregon last week returning Sunday. Ralph Kring returns from two week vacation in Glendale California resting well. Presbyterian Ladies hold meeting at Christensen hall at 1 o'clock with discussants and plans.
Cranberries demand grows for army use and a Coquille operation plans to expand from last year. Louise Dement, Union High graduate, now works for the U S Treasury in Albuquerque after civil service service in Bernardino, California. Her mother Mrs Jane Dement noted in the report.
In Newberg a leadership shuffle unfolds as the current head announces resignation and a successor is slated to be chosen in an upcoming meeting. The town braces for a potential interim arrangement and continued governance.
Portland visitors arrive visiting relatives in Coquille and Keiser hospital. A group from Coquille reports a rapid catch of eastern yellow-bellied catfish below Coquille. Local families host, dine, and plan weekend visits with friends and neighbors in the area.
