Mothers Day will be observed at the First Presbyterian Church with a special sermon by Dr. A Theodore Smith during the 11 o’clock morning worship. The Junior choir directed by Mrs Blisserd will sing and gifts will be given to attending mothers along with four silver awards. Mothers are invited to attend services in their honor at 9 45 a m Sunday school hour.
Myrtle Point opens a new Welfare Center in the former Kirstein Market building in East Myrtle Point. The Seventh Day Adventist Dorcas Society sponsors the project led by Mrs. Leonard Boekelman with Elder C J Ritchie and Mayor B Eads as speakers.
Mrs Olea Rover principal of Myrtle Crest Primary says all children who will be six by November 15 must register to enter first grade. Registration runs May 10 to May 12 at Myrtle Primary from 2 30 to 4 pm with specific days by last name A G May 10 H O May 11 and P Z May 12.
The America Legion Post No 38 will sponsor American Legion Baseball in Turtle Point this summer. A 12 game schedule begins in June with Carl Gilbert and Char 4um ble guiding the team. A meeting for all boys 14 and over is set for Sunday May 5 at 7 30 in the Lie on hall.
Well attended meetings at Broadbent Arago and Myrtle Point P T A week discuss proposed high school addition. Attendees pleased with information and enthused by plans. Scheduled meetings include May 5 6 11 and May 12 with local clubs.
The Oregon State Game Commission completed planting 16 900 trout in the four forks of the Coquille river on April 15 16 17 and 25. The stock includes rainbows and cutthroats and is half of the total allocation for these streams. Local helpers were Tom Forrest John Lyons and Frank Andrews.
The Union High School Foard votes to resubmit the bond proposition to voters of the Union High School District on May 23 from 2 00 to 8 00 p m. The decision follows the Citizens' Committee report urging continuation of the building program and a recommendation by A L Beck of the State Department of Education that building on the present site is the only affordable option.
A boat used by three men who drowned on the Middle Fork of the Coquille was found Tuesday around 1 PM. John Koch of Bridge reports the vessel was located in a bushy area, but no bodies from Hart and Wyrick or the McGredie brothers have been recovered.
Myrtle Point council wrestles with stray dogs and considers a dog pound. Councilman Robert Belloni to study options and report May 16. Owners urged to obey city ordinance restricting dogs within limits. Also approved transfer of a liquor license and a taxi license.
Elton Schroeder district director retired will attend a Eugene meeting of the Conference of the Distributors. Retailers from across the state are expected to attend the event at the University of Oregon with Robert College assisting in arrangements. Schroeder is a district advisor for Myrtle Point and associated with Schroeder Furniture Co.
