Myrtle Point welcomes 700 junior and senior high musicians from Reedsport North Bend Marshfield Coquille Bandon Port Orford Langlois Gold Beach and Myrtle Point for the 18th Southwestern Oregon District Band Festival during National Music Week. A 2:30 p.m. grand parade Saturday through downtown Myrtle Point will crown best junior and senior high bands with trophies from the Chamber of Commerce. A Saturday 8 p.m. concert in the Myrtle Crest gym features two selections from each high school band and five by the 63 member University of Oregon honor band directed by Robert Wagner.

Following the council appointment the planning commission met to elect officers and assign terms. Martin Kinchelee was named president with Elton Schroeder as vice president and Engstrom as secretary.
