Divorce actions headline court business with Lillian Harris Lucille Willis Merlin Bullock and others. Petitions allege desertion cruelty and alleged maintenance claims. Decrees and demurrers noted with settlements and transfers of funds in Coos County Oregon.
Myrtle Point High School presents the mystery comedy Tiger House by St Clair in the auditorium on May 3 at 8 o clock. The play follows a mystery manor setting with a secret room and frequent near killings, but no actual murder. The cast includes Eleanor Breuer Dorothy Lundy Frances True Bether Nelaen Earl Parry Kenneth Dietz Robert Young Phyllis Dement Claude Presaler Wilfred Neal.
The Myrtle Point Woman's Club held its Pioneer Day at the Presbyterian church with about 78 attendees. Honorees included the longest resident Coos County pioneers Mrs Kate Hodson Mrs Mais Barker Mr Joe Knight Emma W Hermann and others aged 60 to 70. Refreshments followed the program with pink tulip decorations and coordinated by local members.
Coos County Fair grounds in Myrtle Point hosts a summer round up July 4 to 6 with rodeo events including bull dogging bucking bronc and bull riding. Eastern Oregon stock supplied by manager Fryrear from Heppner. Evening dances at The Oaks pavilion with concessions on site. Contestants must contact Fryrear and be signed up by noon July 4.
Arago presents a Friday play titled The Filatterer directed by Perker. The cast features a student body ensemble with several roles highlighted, in a performance labeled as the final act of the production series.
Surprise wedding for Rey Sperry of Glendale and a Myrtle Point bride took place at the bride’s mother’s Roseburg home with Rev. William Paucette officiating. The couple planned a Glendale honeymoon and will reside there where the groom is employed.
Coos county's allotment for the 20th annual Citizen's Military Training Camp at Vancouver Barracks, Washington, is only partly filled. The 1938 camp opens July 5 and runs four weeks with an emphasis on outdoor sports. Transportation is provided for accepted trainees, and beginners or former students eligible to attend. Candidates should contact CMTC headquarters, Vancouver Barracks.
Albert A. Matson 54 of Marshfield held on old reckless driving commitment with $35 fine due. Whalen 28 of Powers arrested on taking merchandise under false pretenses. alleged to charge a suit to another man and later to the liquor store under an alias. bottle of whiskey found. James Farrell 63 arrested in Powers on indecent exposure. license previously canceled. sentenced to 30 days in county jail. Woodrus Aub 21 of Powers jailed Monday for disorderly conduct. 30-day sentence. Tiny Peterson 22 and Arthur Rasmus 32 lodged for Wednesday on larceny charges.
Eugene Howe, a subordinate CCC officer at the Port Orford camp, was arrested Wednesday by State Policeman P B Lowd on a reckless driving charge. He appeared before Justice E A Dodge East Thursday and received a $25 fine with $15 suspended.
Classified notice calls for bids to transport pupils from non high districts to Myrtle Point High School for the next school year. Bids cover routes Sitkum via Dore, Remap to Bridge, and Bancroft to Bridge with requirements shown in the notice.
Albert Gulstrom of Arago was badly hurt when a cant shifted and rolled, pinning him between two logs while splitting a red cedar cant on the Albert Lillie place. He suffered a fractured pelvis four broken ribs and a ruptured bladder and was operated on at Coquille hospital. He is reported to be rallying and in fair condition.
Oregon Products Week runs May 3 through May 11 with campaigns in 72 to 160 Oregon papers. The effort markets Oregon goods to residents, featuring showcases and window displays of local manufacturers.
Elton Mayse of Brewster Valley narrowly escaped serious injury after falling from the upper to the lower floor of a barn. He landed on his head, was unconscious briefly, and woke the next day dazed with a severe headache but otherwise uninjured.
Mr and Mrs George Beauchamp lost their one room Lee home and possessions in a Saturday blaze thought to start from an overheated stovepipe. They saved only a trunk and three chairs. They estimated losses at 400 to 500 dollars with no insurance and planned a new home with neighbor help.
Graduation for the eighth grade has been advanced from May 10 to May 15 due to mumps cases among grammar pupils. The event combines with the 4-H Achievement program covering Clothing, Handwork, Forestry and Garden clubs with exhibits and ribbon awards.
Mrs. LH Giles, formerly of Myrtle Point, returned to the city Saturday and moved into her Fourth street home. She is mother of Claud Giles of Marshfield and stepmother of Mrs. N G Perkins of this city. She left Myrtle Point about 18 years ago and has lived in San Francisco, Arizona, and last winter in Huxtea.
Listed marriages and license filings include M Green and xvas Wirery in Charleston, J Dickson Sm Harace and Mergent Metcalf of Portland, and KEktridge A Archer of Marshfield with Avis E Moore of North Head married Saturday. Met Duncan of Coquille with Charlotte Dexter of Portland received a license, while L H Yarter and B G Sheets of Oakland filed for a license Monday.
Myrtle Point Bobcats win their second straight dust track meet defeating Coquille Red Devils 55 to . After field events Myrtle Point led 29-25 with three races left Coquille then led 42-38 until the relay decided the outcome. Myrtle Point, aided by a victorious relay, clinched the meet by five points.
The Women's Civic club of Bridge met in the schoolhouse for an April gathering attended by 24 members. Officers were elected: I B England president, Ray Beckett vice president, Charles Johnson secretary treasurer. a shower for Mrs Merle Bryant followed. The program featured songs, a Cinderella skit by seventh and eighth graders, solos, and readings. Installation is planned for the next meeting.
Myrtle Point youths Ay le Barklow and Gilbert Houschouer belong to Camp Wimer in Medford district CCC. Houschouer serves as assistant leader at Camp Wimer, a state ECW camp on Pleasant Creek north of Rogue River. The all Oregon hunter company builds 75 miles of truck trails and telephone lines to connect Sexton Mountain King Mountain and Battle Mountain Lookout stations with Medford as nerve center.
Powers School held a graduation and procession featuring speakers Dr. David Baird and E. 8. Gamwell. Alys June Fox and Harry Stallard performed, with Clarence Newton receiving a certificate for punctual attendance among a list of graduates and attendees.
The Oregon FFA annual convention gathers in Corvallis with officer elections and business sessions. Contests include shop and farm work demonstrations, farm accounting, judging, parliamentary practice, and a leadership banquet. notable visitors include Andrew Sundstrom and Dr A Rees. Myrtle Point delegates and local leaders attend events and contests with $50 awarded for top judges.
Bandon Nat opens Saturday May 4 at Wecoma Bathe in Bandon by the Sea. The heated ocean water natatorium is reconditioned and ready for summer. Weekday hours are 1 to 5 pm and 7 to 10 pm. Sundays 11 am to 10 pm.
The Coquille Loggers host the Marshfield Eagles next Sunday for a league game in Coquille. The Loggers trail 10 to 7 as hits and timing favored the visitors.
The Townsend Club plans a caravan to North Bend and asks as many members as possible to join Monday evening. Commissioner O B Bennett of Portland will address the group, with the meeting moved to Thursday night for summer months.
The Myrtle Point High School 1995 graduation features baccalaureate May 12 at the Methodist church with Rev. R C Young speaking. Sophomores handle decorations and ushers. Commencement follows May 17 in the high school auditorium with Howard Bonnikesen giving the salutation. Four graduates wear caps and gowns. Juniors again manage decorations and ushers. Honor pins awarded to students above a 2.0 average.
Jack Warner and Verlin Hermann were chosen as Myrtle Point F A candidates for the State Farmer degree. Warner oversees a 114 high grade sheep, two registered rams, 110 spring lambs, 13 acres hay, and self produced winter feed valued around 9000. He serves as secretary this year and aims to be Myrtle Point Future Farmers president next year. Warner’s project value is about 8888, with active involvement in local and state Future Farmers activities.
Mrs Schroeder hosted visitors including Mrs Boland Bowars and Hughes and her daughter. They attended social calls with Hen Schroeder and A Piel present.
A U S Army flyer visited Medford as part of a landing fleet assignment. Lt Wadman, a Powell High School graduate, left Powers for Medford, returning after a brief stay with dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Gates and others.
