At Powers last Thursday the Coos County Chamber of Commerce heard Hershel Obie of the Siskiyou National Forest discuss Powers Agness access road surveys. He outlined three possible routes and cautioned that no immediate Forest Service plans exist while funding and development hurdles persist.
Vernon Edward Mill 36 died after touching a high voltage wire at a plant site while Gilford B Jones 43 was killed instantly at Eden Ridge Coos Bay Lumber camp when a log rolled onto him. Mill left a wife Grace and three children Mike 8 Garry. Jones survived by wife Margaret and four children Ernest Jackie Phillip Virginia. Jones’ body to be shipped to DeQueen Arkansas for services.
Myrtle Point Lions club announces the Easter Egg Hunt at the fair grounds next Sunday morning with the Easter Bunny visiting. A committee led by Ritchie Francis handles the event with co chairmen Austin Dodge Bill Downing and others named. A special meeting is scheduled for Saturday April 20 at the Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club at 7 o clock.
This week at First Presbyterian church on Thursday a Holy Communion service is set for 7 30 PM. The Session will meet at 7 00 PM to receive new members. Easter Sunday features Sun Day School films The Crucifixion and He Is Risen at 9 45 AM with a gift for children and an 11 AM Easter service with music led by Rev Dr A Theodore Smith who will speak on The Joy of Easter. The church invites both public and members to attend. The church joins in Good Friday and Sunrise Easter services with the Church of the Brethren.
A program for Easter will be presented at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on Sunday April 1 at 10 am. All are invited to attend with plays recitations and Easter music directed by Mrs. Allison Roberts. Elder Thomas Coffman will speak at the 11 o clock service.
Maundy Thursday Communion Service at 8 o clock on March 29 invites attendees to arrive early. Easter Sunday features the film Resurrection shown at 9 46 Sunday church hour, with Edward Moe Craig delivering the 11 o clock sermon on the theme A Bang? (Continued on Back Page).
Governor Elmo Smith told the West Coast Lumbermen's Association that Oregon's timber industry could add 25 000 jobs in ten years through better wood waste utilization. He cited expansion of the pulp and paper, hardboard, wood fabricating and remanufacturing sectors as key, with no increase in virgin timber use.

Headquarters are at 716 North Gould, Coquille, Oregon, as the drive targets a nationwide 26 million dollar goal to fund three cancer cures and related programs.
