Community meeting topics and citywide clean up planned

Jim King addressed the CC group and Kim King spoke for Myrtle Pols School District 41 about MPHs and the forestry program. Construction within the district was noted. A citywide clean up is set for Saturday April 26 with a Rotary Park potluck and free grass clipping pickup by the street department.

Irene Johnson Seeks County Clerk Nomination

Irene Johnson former Cors County Democratic Central Committee chairman announces she will seek the party nomination for county clerk. Johnson served as secretary to Circuit Court Judge Janes A. Norman since 1964 and as Fourth District representative on the State Democratic Party Executive Board. She moved to Oregon in 1946 and worked in the state legislature and for Gov. Robert D. Solmes before joining Coos Bay KOOS 4 Co. A special City Council meeting on the proposed new zoning ordinance and mobile homes is set for next Monday at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall.

Walk shortened for McKinley children

Ann and Kathleen Nash of Fairview no longer walk a half mile to the bus. A cooperative effort by we Bares of Land Management and the Federal Highway Administration created a stocked farm around six miles up the Middle Creek forest access road. Log truck traffic had made the road hazardous, especially on dark rainy mornings. Mrs Nash praised district engineer Chalmer Vustafson for restoring her faith in humanity.

Sunrise service set at Camp Myrtlewood

The Interchurch Fellowship will hold a 6 30 a m sunrise Easter service at Camp Myrtlewood this year with choir director Mrs Judy Dayton leading Easter music. Fellowship breakfast follows, each family to bring its own eggs and milk mixed fare, hotcakes and beverages available.

A Lewis and Clark College sophomore reflects on five months abroad beginning Sept 27 1974 with 26 on the trip from diverse states. The group visited Brisbane Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef then backpacked Tasmania Cradle Mountain region before returning to campus with a new worldview.

Forest herbicide program to treat 7599 acres in Oregon

Siskiyou National Forest Supervisor W P Ronayne announced a spring project to spray 7599 acres across Coos Curry and Josephine counties. Helicopter contracts total 691 | 1176 | 1032 acres for Calico Gold Beach and Powers districts. Reforestation Service will spray 4400 acres on the Chetco district. Herbicides 2 4 D and 2 4 5 T used with water mix to limit hardwood growth. Environmental impact statement prepared under NEPA.
