Hogan Takes First in Southwestern Oregon Speech Contest
Walter Hogan of MPHS won the district speech contest sponsored by the Southwestern Oregon Board of Realtors held at the Tim Bert Inn on March 15. He earned a $100 scholarship and will advance to the state contest in Eugene, with his instructor Mrs Manley Starr and expenses covered by the board. The district included entrants from Myrtle Point, Bandon, Coos Bay, and North Bend, with judges from 1st National Bank Western Bank and Coast Savings and Loan under University of Oregon supervision.

WWII US Navy veteran married in Coos Bay 1949 to Thelma Lma. survived by wife three sons two brothers four sisters and parents. He owned Vic's Barber Shop and belonged to Elks Lions American Legion and Bobcat Booster Club. Services held March 21 Myrtle Point Funeral Home with military rites at Myrtle Crest Memorial Gardens.
