Red Cross Funds Raised Far Toward Quota
Over half the Red Cross drive funds have been pledged with about $1431 raised by town residents by noon and $315 from Powers $275 from Arago $250 from Broadbent and $212.64 from Norway. The Mast hospital leads the list with 247 in cash from staff donations ranging from $8 to $100 and the drive is expected to meet the quota by March.

County Moves to Hire Full Time Health Officer
County court on Monday authorized the state board of health to complete arrangements for hiring a full time health officer. Dr Byers of Tennessee is expected to arrive and begin work in May if conditions are satisfactory. The county may fund a partial salary with the state covering the rest as the health unit expands.

Cougars Kill 17 Deer Reported Near Rowland Creek
Clarence Mullens of Arago reports 17 deer killed by cougars in Rowland Creek headwaters on the South Fork. He says several cougars may be responsible and has set poison and traps, warning local hunters to use care with dogs. Also noted is a brown bear trapped on Catching Creek last fall found by Mullens.
