The Myrtle Point Saddle Club rodeo raised about 9600 for the new 4 H building but after deductions and event costs the total disbursements left net profits under 200. The club thanks all organizers and donors for their support.
Myrtle Point High School athletic director Kay Petersen begins a long European tour to review programs and seek ideas for school athletics. The trip targets international practices and potential partnerships.
The mayor declares Friday July 4 and Saturday July 5 1952 as legal holidays in Myrtle Point. Businesses and citizens are urged to close to observe Independence Day and participate in ceremonies. Dated June 20 1952.
Myrtle Point union Vacation Bible School to open July 7 and run through July 20 with church participation. Preschool meets at Methodist, primary at Christian, juniors at Assembly of God, and intermediates at Presbyterian church.
Lyle Pierce of Salem is renovating the Watsling building on Spruce Street Myrtle Point to install 800 cold storage lockers for meat and vegetables. The lockers will be fully installed and in service by August 1. Pierce and his family will relocate to Myrtle Point. an official announcement will appear in The Herald next week.
The Myrtle Point Actives split a Sunday double header with Bandon on June 22. Myrtle Point lost game one 6 to 3 despite Mac Sutphin’s two home runs, but won game two 4 to 3. Next game is Friday June 29 at Coquille starting 6 P M.
A dinner dance at the Coquille Valley Country Club saw Don Wolgamott installed as president for six months. Frank Berrows, Norman Jarvis, Lewis Knight, George Nichols, and Bill Dayton were also installed in roles. Two new members Bill Martin and Jack Lakey joined. Lyle Carver attended as guest. Mrs Lyle Carver entertained with piano and Mrs Bill Dayton sang as dancing followed.
Dr Bennett spoke at Coos Bay on population growth and its impact on school curriculums and aging compulsory education. He noted 1933 birth highs, shifts to industrial society, and calls for a modified curriculum and professional teaching, followed by panel discussions addressing financing and policy.
Stanley Parsons resigns as Coos County extension agent overseeing 4-H work effective July 5 to take an agricultural agent role in Lyon County Kansas. Joe Spiruta will assume acting 4-H duties in Coos, with Walter Schroeder expected to return later. Parsons and family plan to move to Emporia Kansas.
Mr and Mrs E I Donaldson of Coquille attended the Oregon Jersey Classic sale in Portland reporting a good sale of quality cattle. Open heifers sold over 500 dollars and 27 head of purebred Jersey cows bred and open heifers averaged over 400 dollars each. Top cow came in by Bill Street of Sixes for ...
After seven years at Myrtle Point First Methodist, Rev. Wilmer A Briggs is transferred to Tillamook First Methodist Oregon effective immediately. He will lead the Tillamook pulpit next Sunday with Mrs Briggs assisting as a faithful partner in the church work.
The Martha Circle WSCS and Methodist church groups invite all My Point area families to a 8 p.m. farewell for Rev Wilmer A Briggs and family at the Methodist church. Mr and Mrs Fred Gross returned from Washington. Cathy and Jim stayed with grandparents in Chehalis. Tom Sturza visiting relatives with the Gross family.
Tournaments are planned for summer at Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club with Sunday afternoon play. The golf committee urges youth participation and improvement of fairways and greens. Hidden-hole results from a recent weekend list Elvisa Wilberger Clayton Mast Bill Downing and John Lauterbach as winners. Next weekend features a best-ball twosome event with open invitation.
Bridge extension unit met June 19 in the Grange hall to finish a drapery project and plan summer activities. Fifteen members attended as Mrs. Andrew Waterman presided. They approved a July quilting project and a public July 12 evening at the Grange with program, cards, dancing, and a pies auction. An essay contest for women in other nations was announced. The homemakers camp will run August 3 at Camp Myrtlewood. The Bridge wait accepted an invitation to host the campfire program Mondays. Refreshments were served.
