Permit Denied for Empire Theatre Construction
Austin Dodge of this city and R D Greene of Bandon had a permit to build a one story theatre in Empire denied by the Housing Exploit or in Portland last week. Dodge says the location was misinterpreted since his address was Myrtle Point and plans for a new interview are sought. The Hiland theatre seats about 550, Dodge says this suffices for now.

The Lions club softball team led by George Linn defeated a team captained by Lyle Carver 17 to 12 under the Union High School field lights last night. Francis G Gates of Bend was elected state Commander at the VFW encampment closing session in Grants Pass. Delegates planned next summer’s Pendleton meeting and tentatively set June 9 to 12 for the encampment. Lions International director elected at Oregon convention

Issie Hahn of Eugene was elected director and Jess Neleigh of Medford was chosen District Governor of district 36 E succeeding Ray Jued of Coquille. The 1948 convention will be held at La Grande.
