West Myrtle Point residents Mr and Mrs Paul Breuer and Mr and Mrs Walter Moore joined Bennie Daniels for a Sunday visit with Miss Eleanor Breuer of Marshfield. Earlier the Breuers and associated friends were Friday visitors of Mrs Minnie Robbins.

Surprise party honors merchant Mrs. Christy

Harry Christy hosted a surprise Monday night birthday gathering for her husband with three pinochle tables. Couple Observes 58th Wedding Anniversary at Church Event

Sunday services at the Church of the Brethren marked the 58th wedding anniversary of Mr and Mrs Henry Brown of Lee. Mother of Nine Dies at Home in Myrtle Point

Mrs. Melizso Norris 88 widow of Joseph Norris died at her Myrtle Point home Thursday June 6 1940. Born December 6 1851 in Ohio she lived in Coos County 15 years since her husband died in Washington 1919. Survived by 21 grandchildren 26 great grandchildren and 9 children including Minnie Banister Lola Cortols Ed Norris Ida Hardy Mildred Burns Edith Hawes Grant Norris and Ernest Norris. Interred at Norway Cemetery with Rev Hugh Mitchellmore in charge.

Mr and Mrs Henry Hervey of Lee were Sunday guests of the Weeklys. Mr and Mrs W J de Boer met daughters Betty and Helen in Eugene Sunday. Mrs de Boer then went with Miss Jo Heffley to Portland to depart for the coast. Betty and Helen later returned home with their father.

City of Myrtle Point proclaims June 1 to 30 as Dairy Month to honor the dairy industry. Proclamation notes milk products are essential to health and that Coos County dairymen produce about four million pounds of butterfat annually supporting farmers and tax revenues. Cultivator Delays City Laundry Run Mishap

Delbert Steele in a laundry truck rushed to the Young residence to pick up a laundry load but his truck rolled into the Young garden. The vehicle wandered a block away before stopping among vegetables and later had to be pulled out by the Pearce wrecker to prevent further damage.

Lions Convention to convene in Marshfield next week

Oregon Lions clubs members and wives attend the 30th Oregon convention in Marshfield at the Chandler hotel as headquarters. The auxiliary meets at the old high school with delegates registering Sunday at 9 am and events planned through Tuesday afternoon.

The mill owned by A L Powrie has been leased to Jack Mel and is now operating full time two miles west of Myrtle Point. They plan to cut about 25 000 feet of timber daily from the Moon tract.

Local Girls In Head-On Collision Near Bridge

A Friday morning head-on collision on the Myrtle Point Coquille highway involved Miss Phyllis Belloni of Myrtle Point and Ralph Todd of Cognitie. Dolores and Phyllis Belloni, rear-seat passengers, were shaken with injuries. Phyllis spent a night in Mast Hospital and returned to work, Dolores to recover at home for a few days. Alice Belshaw and Marian Endicott were unhurt. Todd was treated in Coquille. Dolores Belloni is a deputy in the county tax office. Phyllis Belloni had recently begun work there. Front ends of both cars were badly damaged.

Binder Chain Fatality Hits Roseburg Driver on Highway

John J. Birman a 45 year old Roseburg resident died when a logging truck he drove was thrown by a loose binder chain caught in the right rear wheel. The truck veered off the Myrtlé Point Coquille highway struck a ditch and the logs crushed the cab. The Mitts a nearby couple and Kenneth Helms of Myrtle Point witnessed the crash. Birman’s body was sent to Roseburg for interment after services at Schroeder Funeral Home.
