Highlights included a high quality quarter horse colt raised by Marge and a 18 month old registered Hereford bull on display at the L W Gardner farm.

A Myrtle Point business man was installed Worthy Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Oregon Order Eastern Star in a ceremony at the Masonic temple in Portland on Wednesday evening. Many local friends traveled to attend the occasion and were among the guests listed.
The Southwestern Motors Co. of Coquille opens a Myrtle Point branch at Eighth and Sprice with Leonard Ensele as manager. A showroom for Buicks and Chevrolets and a used car lot are operated. Ensele moved his family here and plans a new home. he is a charter member of the Bandon Lions Club planning to transfer membership.
President Truman ignores calls from Senator Kefauver and Americans for Democratic Action to recall William O Dwyer as ambassador to Mexico amid charges of New York City corruption tied to gamblers. The clash marks tension within the party over O Dwyer’s suitability for the post.
John Lauderbach brings a giant tarantula into The Herald after a cross state move on an Interstate produce truck. The spider was found in an alley trunk unloading produce and placed in the Herald window for display.
Voters in School District 41C will vote next Monday June 16 on two new directors and the annual budget. Nominees are Othal C. Davenport for a two year term and Paul Hammer for a five year term. Howard Whitaker withdraws after 13 years. Polls open 2 to 8 p.m. at Myrtle Point Elementary School.
Churches from Arago and Langlois join pastors Rev Donald Wismar and Rev William Easterling in hosting the Presbyterian Annual Boys and Girls Camp. Costs remain 12 dollars per child, including 1.50 registration for camp use. Enroll at Schroeder's store or call Myrtle Point 51, bring blankets and Bible, towels, swim gear, and good clothes. Cots and mattresses provided. meeting at 3 PM Sunday June 22 at the Myrtle Point Presbyterian Church with transport available for luggage.
About 75 people attended the Coos County Livestock Association first annual farm tour in the Coquille valley on Sunday June 8 visiting seven farms. Organizers noted plans for annual or semi annual tours visiting different county areas.
Andy Richardson of Coquille, secretary of the Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club, scored a hole in one on a 120 yard par 3 at Sunday PM play witnessed by 413 spectators and a small gallery on the veranda. A par 34 round was posted as his score. Next Sunday a coquina match between Coque and Myrtle Point golfers will be staged on the course.
The Myrtle Point Herald reports a major amateur rodeo to be staged in Southern Coos county next Saturday and Sunday with a 2:30 parade on Saturday. About 70 riders join four parade divisions and many cash prizes funded by local groups. The rodeo includes bareback riding saddle bronc Brahma bull riding calf roping and horse races with Saddle Club prizes totaling 500 dollars.
Local attorney Jack Dunn was unanimously elected president of the Myrtle Point Lions Club at a Wednesday night dinner meeting. Officers for the coming year include Ed Sempert as first vice president Frank Meldrum as second vice president Otha L C Davenport as third vice president Chet Weed Al Wyld Whitaker George Line as tail twisters Al Petre as lion tamer and two new directors Ritchie Francie Elden Brodie. Dunn and the new board will be installed at the next meeting on Wednesday the 18th.
Oregon states that 36 counties will share 65 608.44 in county fair apportionments for 1952. Coos County’s portion is listed as 2 048 with other funds totaling 874 962 97. The distribution is based on a tax of one twentieth of a mill on taxable property.
