Ronald Burr of Coquille sustained severe cuts to the right eye and forehead when his car collided with a vehicle driven by Lindsay Carson of Roseburg at Powers Junction on highway 42. Carson and his wife Pearl received minor injuries. Burr was treated by passersby and transported to Mast Hospital.
A bull frog at the Lucas Hotel in Agness, overlooking the Rogue River, is reported to have eaten multiple swallows. Larry Lucias and Joe helped pull feathers from the frog’s mouth revealing a swallow and other prey. The tale notes the frog sat by the riverbank awaiting mud for its meal as birds swooped in.

City Recorder C. P. Moore levied heavy fines this week. Ernest Bursie Shelton pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and received a $206 fine plus costs. Loren S. Swigert pleaded guilty to reckless driving and was fined $160 plus costs.
A union service at Presby terian Church Sunday from 10 38 to 11 36 a m features recitations songs Bible verses by children and a talk by Dr An Thamare Smith. Parents of Sunday school children are invited and the public is welcomed.
The Myrtle Point Shodeo will crown a goddess winner with floats entered by local groups. Parade routes run through the business district to the fair grounds arena for prize awards. committees include Mrs Dude King and Mrs Charles Brown with local clubs coordinating entries and safety for children and horses.
Cottle, 61, died Friday after seven weeks illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Christian church led by Rev Phil Ryan. Interment in Seattle. Born October 2, 1888 in Salt Lake City, he moved to Myrtle Point three years ago. Survived by wife Marjorie of Myrtle Point and daughters in Seattle and California.
Delegates from Elgin parish head to Portland for the Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic Grand Lodge sessions. Included are Mrs Stanley Furman and Robert Powrie with other officers and pages to take part in drills and ceremonies honoring 80 year members. Local members plan travel by air and train with additional arrivals for the event.

Powers Ball Club defeated the locals 3 to 2 on Saturday in a tight game. Myrtle Point players Krantz and May scored. Shawver Boutin and Brady contributed one run each. umpires were Dean Weekly Don Sutphin and Don Stickney. Myrtle Point lineup included Krantz May Anderson Caffey Gilkison Dayton Webber Cunningham and Brooks. The locals face Bandon Junior Legion at 2 p m Saturday June 11 in Bandon for their third league game.
Many married couples overpaid 1948 personal income tax due to confusion over a special regulation allowing amending returns by July 15 1948. Overpayments came from not filing separate returns when it would have saved tax, and taxpayers misunderstood the difference between the Federal form and the Oregon return.
