County Livestock Marketing association to hold two meetings this week at Coos Bay and Coquille to discuss marketing live stock and meat. R H Christensen reports plans aim to learn current slaughter limits and their effect on producers and war effort.
A study by Beach and Pool predicts more than 80 public and private pools will be built in Oregon and about 10 300 new pools nationwide in the first five postwar years. Outdoor pools will edge indoor ones in future construction as design and color evolve.
Four local women are among Oregon State College graduates in the seventy sixth annual commencement. Anita Dorothy Tedsen of Norway and Dellemnen will receive diplomas, marching in the academic procession. The class includes 301 bachelor’s degrees, 28 master’s, and no doctorates with 6 pre medical students finishing one year in the medical school in Portland.
Mrs. Maude MacDonald wife of the late Rev. Turner MacDonald died at her Port Orford home on June 1. Funeral services were held Monday in Coquille with Rev. Leston Parrish officiating and burial in Norway Cemetery. Born July 9 1877 in Chicago she moved to Coos County in 1900 and lived in Myrtle Point Arago and Port Orford. she leaves two sons Neil Medford and Ariel Portland, seven surviving sisters and two grandsons.
The conference of the Home Economics council met last week in Corrallis. Attending from the district were county demonstration agent Mrs Cecelia Van Winkk of Coquille county president Anne Montgomery of Coos Bay Mrs James Schoolcraft and Mr Lloyd Davenport of Broadbent. Montgomery was elected state president of the home economics advisory council.
Seven dance orchestras will join for a Friday BonDance at the Coquille Community Building a four hour War Loan jamboree. Stars include Bob Spear, Jack Ellis, Ralph Leach, Curley’s Wranglers, Bum Garten, Medford Fuller, and Selander’s orchestra. Dance runs 9 pm to 1 am with tickets at banks and post offices and free with each War Bond purchase. Proceeds fund county War Savings efforts and bond purchases.
Residents will participate in a citywide cleanup in June. The plan involves collecting brush and debris for hauling, with disposal arrangements coordinated by local crews.
J H Clarno and Tom For rest lead as new officers to be installed at the next Lions Club meeting on June 20. A district officer is expected to attend. A housing committee was formed to address post war building needs and a marshal will be employed locally. Delegates El ton Gehroeder J H Clarno B C Roberta and Waldemar Gurney were appointed to the Eugene district meeting on June 24. Mrs Bernadine Wilton, widow of Dr M Earl Wilson, is in the city briefly en route to New York City for a year long stay.
