County Fair Beard Raises Funds for This Year’s Renee Release

A disbanded group presented 31 000 to the Fair Beard with the understanding the funds be used this year. A new building costing just under 6 000 was completed as part of the county fair beard efforts to provide revenue release for the event this year.

Fat Lamb Sale Averages Near Eighteen Dollars Per Head

The fat lamb sale reports 1 032 head sold from Coos County sheepmen with total receipts of 17844 81 dollars in the July 15 pool. Heavy lambs averaged 21.00 per head light wool 19.45, shorn lambs 2.00. The 400 wool 475 and 01 4 regia lambs averaged 19.75. A second lot 533 head light fat lambs averaged 15.00 per head. June 27 pool brought 32.75 wool and 20.75 shorn. Overall average 20.30 per head for two pools. Association plans more pools and feeder sales in August.

Bloodmobile Visit Set for Myrtle Crest School

Curt Beckham named general chairman of the Blood Donor program as the Bloodmobile comes to Myrtle Crest school on Tuesday August 4 from 3 to 7 p m with a 90 pint quota. Donors aged 18 to 59 may give. Mrs Chares Humble chair donor room airman and Beta Delta sorority volunteers assist. Previous visit on Feb 4 yielded 122 pints and three additional donors.

Coos County Fair Announces Free Midway Shows and Events

The Coos County Fair runs August 13 to 16 with free 11 am and 4 pm shows by Charlie Chaney on the midway starting August 13 and a noon show on August 16. Saturday features the logging industry finals, and the Browning Brothers Carnival returns August 13 with Kiddies Day rides at half price.

Elgin Heimer, a Myrtle Point resident, travels to show magic tricks and trade tops made from empty spools. He aims to spark joy in children, visits two to eight year olds, and enjoys checkers and making licorice-flavor whistles from plant stalks. He turns seventy this October and lives a quiet life on a hillside cabin, never marrying.

Bucking Contest Set for County Fair Loggers Show

Elimination contests downtown at 1 p.m. Saturday Aug. 1 announced by Pete Pointer climbing contest chairman. The event will be on C Street between Clarno Variety and Friday and held about a week before the fair begins Aug. 13.

County Fair Trucking C Contest Elimination Slated August 8

The Loggers Shodeo committee announces an elimination contest for the log truck driving event in the Coos County Fair schedule. The event occurs on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Fair Grounds in Myrtle Point. Chairman Larry Haley and members Art Jones Wilson Boyer and Dean Ruell head the contest.
