First 1000 Cans Done At Cannery

Over 1000 cans of meat cherries peas beets and carrots have been canned at the Union High School Community Cannery during its Wednesdays operation for the past month. Demonstrations attracted more than 100 attendees and the cannery will continue weekly with no family limit on canning amounts this year.

Jersey Herd Grows With 17 Added By Judge King

Judge Dale King imported 17 registered Jersey animals from Salem into his ranch herd below town. The addition brings the total to 22 head including two bulls and various cattle ages. Some cows in the Nash line have produced up to 1000 pounds of butterfat annually, ranking among the nation's best milking strains.

Lions Win From Rotarians In Golf Joust

The Liens' club golf team from Myrtle Point and Coquille defeated the Rotary clubs of both towns 26 to 22 and a half at Coquille Valley Country Club. Thirty two players participated in the tourney and a match against Coquille Valley is set for Sunday at 10.00.

Lt Osborne Receives Decoration for Air Force Service

Lt. Earle L. Osborne of Myrtle Point Oregon, a key RAF heavy bomber officer in Italy, is cited by Col George R Acheson for outstanding achievement. His unit helped strike German supply lines in Italy and the Balkans. Osborne is a Myrtle Point High School graduate who joined the AAF in 1940 and trained at Chanute Field Liberal Kansas and Camp Davis North Carolina.
