Laland Ross McNair dies at Mast hospital after several weeks of illness at 32. Born Myrtle Point July 30, 1906, he leaves widow Winnie Marie and children Kenneth Wayne and June Delores, parents Frank and Mra McNair of Bald Hill, sister Verna Cain of Myrtle Point. Funeral Saturday at Schroeder Funeral Home with 100 F Lodge graveside rites at Norway Cemetery.

Leon Elisha Thompson died at 7 30 m July 12 1938 at the Bond apartments after a long illness and bedrest since Easter due to neurable disease He was 53 and had worked as a photographer with rotogravure in Portland and at logging camps in Coos County He was born in Excelsior Iowa in February 1885 and moved to Oregon in 1908 He leaves a widow Mary Gay Thompson and a daughter Mrs Rogg of San Francisco The funeral is at Schroeder Funeral Home Myrtle Point with burial at Inman Cemetery Elmira near Eugene beside his daughter Charlotte who died in 1913
The secretary of state announced that Oregon’s 1939 auto license plates will switch from black and white to a yellow background with black letters. Tests show these colors improve visibility and the plate type, features, and letters will remain the same as in prior years.
