Club Enterprise Protest Ties Lebanon Move To Resignation

Myrtle Point city council met Tuesday July 5 facing a resignation and protest by a delegation from the Ministerial Association. Mrs Ichlio McCrae, library board member, resigns as her family plans to move to Lebanon Oregon around Aug 1. Her husband, former high school principal, becomes business manager of the Lebanon school district.

City swim program schedule and pre registration noted

The notice outlines swimming lesson times and bus schedules for boys and girls 16 up and younger groups at Coquille Pool, with preregistration at 829 6th St from July 11 to 16. A 6 25 charge covers transport and pool costs, and cards are required for non beginners.

Clarno’s Variety Sold to Hamiltons of Myrtle Point

Hamiltons Mr and Men Ball Hamilton of Myrtle Point took possession of Clarno's Variety last Friday July 1. The store had been sold by Mr and Mrs Joe Clarno who also moved to Myrtle Point. The Clarno couple opened the shop in 1943 and the new owners said the store is closed this week and will reopen this weekend.

Otter Creek Forest Fire Largest in Oregon History

A huge forest fire near Otter Creek burned 500 acres, the state’s largest so far this year. About 145 men fought the flames Friday, with mop up to continue days more. The blaze began June 29 at Moore Mill logging lands, driven by wind, and slowed by a light Thursday rain. Fire crews included Moore Mill workers and other industry personnel, plus 40 inmates and 20 Cool Fire Patrol members. The Sixes River recreation area hosted workers, and campers were urged to stay away.

Boy Scouts State Special Meeting Plans Summer Camp

A special Scout meeting will be held Thursday July 14 at 7 30 PM at the Scout Building. Scout master BDW Street announces plans for the summer camp at Camp Baker on Silicops Lake from July 31 through August. All scouts should prepare to attend.

Powers Timber Sold To Bandon Firm

Powers Ranger District announces a sale of about 11.3 million board feet of timber titled Middle Fork Sixes Salvage. Moore Mill and Lumber Co of Bandon submitted the high bid of 637 330 dollars on Douglas fir and other species with advertised volumes and prices listed.

Allison Roberts Retires After Long Real Estate Career

Mr Allison Roberts a longtime area resident retired June 1 from real estate. He worked for Robinson Realty in Myrtle Point and lived in Coos County 33 years. He previously ran a Powers store, then a Coos Bay shop, and co founded a Myrtle Point real estate firm in 1948 before selling it in 1960 and working for Leroy Robinson until retirement. He now lives at Atago with his wife and keeps his real estate license.

Republican Convention Set for Coos Bay July 21 to 23

The Republican State Convention will be held in Coos Bay from July 21 to 23. Republican State Chairman Peter M. Gunnar invited the United Republicans of Oregon to attend and present their platform to the convention, aiming for broad representation of Oregon Republican views.
