Downtown Block Fire Threaten Monday Blaze at Market Block
A fire shortly after 3 30 Monday morning destroyed the board room operated by Frank Brown and threatened nearby buildings in the block. Myrtle Point fire department contained the blaze before Coquille units arrived. The rear wooden storeroom used by City Meat Market was damaged by fire and water, while Hamm's Cafe next door suffered water damage and smoke. The destroyed building and meat market warehouse were owned by W E Lundy of Huling Lundy and sons. Cause unknown. Frank Brown said he had insurance and awaited the adjustor.

Garage Reopens After Fire Repairs By Albee and Brodrick

Bay Air Circus Draws Large Western Oregon Crowd
The three day air circus at East De airport July 23 to 4 attracted hundreds from the southwestern Oregon district. Spectators traveled from nearby towns to Marshfield to view stunt flying parachute jumps and other acts. Fat Elk Drilling Showing Promise After Shut Down
After a ten day shutdown due to supply delays a drilling cap was broken off the Fat Elk project. On Sunday a drill was lowered to assess the condition about 30 feet from the bottom. Geologist J Ellis Loveman reported oil on the drill when surfaced. More equipment is needed and work is expected to resume early next week.

Tragic July Fourth Chevy Rollover Near Myrtle Point
A new Chevrolet truck owned by Ralph Helmkin of Coquille plunged down an embankment on the Myrtle Point Coquille highway after midnight on July 4. Harold Hatcher allegedly drove the vehicle, which was badly damaged and only partially insured. Hatcher was shaken but able to walk by Tuesday afternoon.

Robbers Loot Bandon Natatorium Cash Register

Paul Laird of Brewster Valley motored to the Hayes reich beyond Prewers and hiked a 40 mile trail to Dlahee. He was joined by cousin Carl Laird the next day. Carl flew in a plane piloted by Cleve Croft from Marsh field covering 60 miles in about forty minutes arriving around 3 pm. Croft landed near Rogue river at the E J Schneider ranch after choosing the spot on first sight. On return Carl rode the boat and the chain came off the rudder sending the craft into the bank. Paul returned by trail on horseback to Powers arriving at Myrtle Point Tuesday night. The party saw deer and fish and enjoyed hot Iltahee weather at the Schneider ranch.

The county court handed nine sentences this week including George P Anich and Vincent N Lambertzon each with thirty days for stealing chittum bark. Since taking over personal tax collection last August, the office has performed creditably without extra help. Some taxpayers have begun payments on real estate taxes under installment plans.
