The report notes fewer auto fatalities in early 1933 than 1832, but the last half of 1933 saw a rise as gas use increased. It cites 30 500 deaths for the year, a 3 percent rise over 1932, and argues accidents are mainly due to individual driver behavior and enforcement of traffic laws. Reports to the Farm Credit Administration indicate that 36 percent of Federal Land Bank loans and 33.6 percent of Land Bank Commissioner loans were used to refinance farmers' indebtedness to commercial banks. A 1 o clock assembly last Wednesday celebrated the basketball victory over Myrtle Point. Coach Rickard praised the school band and sportsmanship. Myrtle Point players received cheers. team members spoke about the game while the band performed. Torch Honor Society members were presented pins as yell leaders led new songs and yells.
Local Myrtle Point Woman's Club offers 50 cents for the best local essay on Citizens' Part in the NRA. State prizes of 10 and 5 dollars await first and second place at the Oregon Federation of Woman's Clubs convention in May 1934. Essays must be under 200 words and submitted to the district chairman by February 28 1934 or handed to the school principal by February 15 1934.
