Great Decisions discussion groups form across Oregon

Oregon and Coos County extension offices report Great Decisions groups forming to study world events. Topics include Vietnam turning points, Japan and the Common Market, the Soviet U.S. relationship, Chile's Marxist experiment, Our China Policy, and global economics. Groups range eight to fifteen people, meet in the evening or day, and are voluntary.

Myrtle Point reserve police gains and training program

The Myrtle Point Police Reserve Unit received uniforms and thanks from citizens and merchants for donations. A training program modeled on Oregon State Police Academy materials was established with Edward O. Summers appointing Norman L. Counts in charge. Weekly reserve meetings aim to improve city law enforcement, with topics covering ethics arrests searches seizures report writing and residents’ investigations.

County Home Rule in Oregon distributed to Coos libraries

The League of Women Voters of Coos Bay distributed an updated booklet on county government to city and high school libraries in Coos County and to Southwestern Oregon Community College. New group to organize CPL meeting in Coos Bay

A CPL organizing meeting is set for January 27 at 8:00 pm in the Neighborhood Factory Building, 860 Mail Street, Coos Bay. Meeting on tax relief law at SWOCC campus

A public meeting on the tax relief law is set for 8 p.m. at Lower Prosper Hall on the Southwestern Oregon Community College campus. SWOCC offices run the session with the State Department of Revenue and Coos County tax collector.
