Myrtle Point Enforces Parking Rules On Main Streets
City Marshal Bert Pearson will enforce the city ordinance affecting parking on main streets. Motorists will be warned of a policy change. Rescue at Volturno River by Ontario Soldier
During the Fifth Army action in Italy, Leo J. Wagner of Ontario aided engineers to rescue 14 truck drivers stranded as the Volturno River rose four feet. Assault boats carried three others to shore, while wreckers and infantry helped pull in debris and secure vehicles.

Doris Jones of Myrtle Point in charge of sending a letter inviting Oregon State Independ ents to the ISA Canteen Mixer held after the Oregon USC basketball game. From Portland Mrs. Willis B Van Fossen visited, grandmother Mrs. Rachel Amen ill in Coquille. Their son Willis J Van Fossen recently finished training in Casper Wyoming as engineer and bombardier on a Liberator bomber. Powers Man Dies At Salem in Oregon
Kit Carson 70 of Powers died at the state hospital in Salem after a short illness, having been moved from Myrtle Point. He came to the United States from Sweden at age three, had no known relatives, never married, and lived in Oregon for 85 years, well known in the Powers area. A separate Army release from Casper, Wyoming dated January 14 reports Sgt. Robert Lendy awarded an additional Oak Leaf Cluster to the Air Medal for combat missions in the South Pacific under enemy fire.

Funeral for John Strong Monday
Funeral services were held at Scheeder Funeral chapel for John C. Strong who died at home after heart illness. He was born November 14 1884 in Grant Pass and lived in Coos county most of his life working in farming. He is survived by three sons and one daughter and several siblings.
