Voters in Myrtle Point School District 4 prepare to cast ballots next Tuesday to approve a $600,000 bond issue for Myrtle Point High School. The funds would finance a new grandstand and extra classroom space to house art and show classes.
The Coos Association for Retarded Children schedules its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Jun 23 at 7 30 p.m. in the Neighbor hood Facility Building Coos Bay Empire District. CARC aims to discuss a Goodwill Training and Sheltered Workshop Center in Southwestern Oregon and seeks parent concerns and program needs.
At the annual meeting Monday Loy's Myrtle Point Restaurant the Myrtle Point Development Co recommended to its board a $4 per share dividend for this year. Treasurer C Dean Mason reported about 350 dollars in interest earnings from a loan to Acme Wood Products. Shareholders elected Ray Getchell to replace Keith Schroeder on the board as Schroeder relocates from the Myrtle Point area.
The District 41 School Board will hold a public meeting at 7 30 p m on Thursday January 18 at the Myrtle Crest Gym to discuss the bond issue for constructing the high school addition. The election date is January 23.
Myrtle Point High School will host Rogue-Tumpens FFA district elimination tournament on January 27. Over 200 boys and girls in blue jackets are expected to participate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Oregon Coast Association plans an open forum during the quarterly board meeting Friday January 19. President Ray Dufur says the session will cover coastal legislative issues and a possible coastal State Highway Commission appointment. The luncheon at Pony Village Motor Lodge in North Bend requires reservations with the lodge.
A Myrtle Point area March of Dimes committee will meet Wednesday January 23 at 10 a.m. in the Myrtle Point fire hall. Local chairwoman Colleen Rema announced the gathering inviting participation in the Mothers March during the week of January 26.
Police Chief Ed Summers says several longtime volunteers are unavailable, especially daytime. Women may qualify by completing a 24 hour training course offered by the city. contact Summers at the police station. Ambulance attendants are paid per call.
About 400 people attended a meeting of the Oregon Rural Landowners Association at the Coquille Community Center last Thursday. Jima Allison of Sherwood, president of the new statewide body, announced the creation of a Coos County chapter with 225 initial members.
The suit seeks 7600 in damages and removal of a building on View Street. Filers are Mr. and Mrs. Garland Wright through attorneys. City Attorney Franks Meldrum disclosed the case at a Myrtle Point City Council meeting.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce voted to support former State Senator Sam Dement of Myrtle Point for an Oregon Highway Commission position to be filled by Governor Tom McCall in March at a meeting Monday held at Loy's Myrtle Point Restaurant.

Ralph Short, Oregon IRS director, says additional assistance is available via toll free at 800-408-0000 and Portland office hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The office is located at 396 Highland Ave.
