Myrtle Point plans bond vote for water project

Myrtle Point city council set January 26 as the date for a public vote on a 9300,000 water bond to fund a new water reservice and extend the system over 30 years with revenue from water service. Voting will be at city hall from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If approved, construction could start about May 1, following prior sewage plant renovations funded by a 305,000 bond.

In Coos County during 1970 mortgage activity totaled 819 loans worth 363 956.89. Security Bank of Myrtle Point ranked fifth with 59 mortgages valued at 754 221.26. First National Bank of Oregon led with 37 mortgages totaling 3 783 484.92. Coast Savings & Loan 62 mortgages at 1 418 150. The council cut sewer bonds to 200 000 to aid water bond approval and swapped plans to a two million gallon steel tank. They also bought a pickup for 1 735.14 and selected Shell Oil as fuel supplier for 1971. Distinguished Service Award prospects include Jim Howe Mitch Myers and Merlyn Hathaway.
