Mr and Mrs J T Royer of Myrtle Point lose their home to a canyon slide on Catchlig creek after a Christmas visit with their children Ervin and Mary Ann Royer. The family had just celebrated Christmas as steady rain fell all day.
The First Presbyterian church will hold its annual congregational meeting after the morning service with a fellowship dinner. Reports from organizations will be heard, officers elected, and the budget for the new year adopted. Sunday also marks the seven year pastorate of Dr and Mrs A Theodore Smith in the city.
Mrs. Vernon Sell of Remote criticizes The Herald for not crediting flood area residents who aided relief efforts. The Myrtle Point police and volunteers worked tirelessly under isolation, with Chief Bill Tankersley and officers responding to every call, though no formal organized relief group existed locally.
The new $12 500 bungalow owned by Mr and Mrs Robert Smith on Highway 42 beyond Sugarloaf mountain is described as a flood casualty. The five acre site is at risk of slipping into the Middle Fork of the Coquille River after heavy rains. The building is cracked and damaged with floors lifted and a warped fireplace. Walter Smith, caring for the property while Robert and family visit relatives in California, moved all furnishings to the garage. Road crews worked to clear slides along the highway as about 100 cars waited to pass. County crews have eased a major slide on Gravelford road north of Myrtle Point under Cecil Hartley.

Churches and non profits are eligible, and farmers should file at nearest Farmers Home Administration office. There is no statutory loan cap.
A telegram from Congressman Harris Ellsworth to The Herald reports President Eisenhower declared flood stricken Southwestern Oregon a disaster area and made emergency funds available. The program will be carried out through the state Civil Defense director under Governor Patterson. SBA loan offices will be set up in Roseburg Grants Pass and Coos Bay.
The National March of Dimes drives for polio funds launches nationwide and runs through January 31. Local attorney Leo V. Nuttman chairs the Myrtle Beach campaign.
