The Myrtle Point Bobcats won two of three on the Willamette valley barnstorming tour last week and open Coos County League play at Moor Friday against North Bend. They beat Cottage Grove 41 to 33, lost to Eugene 46 to 23, then beat Albany 39 to 15, pleasing local fans with a strong rebound effort.
Kenneth C Talley, formerly with the Oregon State Police, resigned last week and was appointed deputy sheriff of Coos County. He assumed duties in January to assist Sheriff Wm Howell, bringing prior Salem experience and local familiarity to county law enforcement. Also noted are the Red Cross rummage sale relocation and Miss Lee Lauderdale's visit to Langiola.
A Washington release by War Mobilisation director James F. Byrnes states all men aged 18 to 26 who have been deferred for agricultural work are to be drafted. The order affects 9640 men nationwide and will bring hardships to Covus county dairy ranchers and stockmen.
County agricultural planning committees across Oregon will convene in January and February to review recent agricultural developments and future prospects. W. L. Teutach notes that western county meetings will occur in January while eastern counties schedule February. Meetings aim to discuss production trends, outlook data, first reports from county veterans advisory, and potential post war economic conferences. Subcommittees on land use livestock crops farm home and rural life labor and veterans will join central committees. Representatives from county war boards home economics extension committees 4 H and Smith Hughes instructors will be invited. County extension data will be presented in charts showing changes since 1926.
Birth notices list several newborns at Mast Hospital with parents from Coquille Myrtle Point Port Orford and Florence. Daughters named June Gammon and Glenda Rae, and sons John Paul and Cheryl Rae with dates in late December 1944. Other patients include Mrs Lester Billings Anna Penn Mrs Otho Miller George Wells Ludwig Larson Nora Hainey and Mrs W Floyd.
Here From Salem Mrs Leslie Dick Barklow arrived Tuesday evening from Saler and stays with her parents Mr and Mrs T G Sumerlin while seeking a location in Coquille where the family will move at once.
Coos County exceeded its E bond quota in the 6th War Loan with an unofficial estimate showing about 15 percent over the $620,000 target. The county’s total bond sales surpassed its $1,870,000 quota as diverse groups—schools, retail, labor, women’s division, granges, newspapers, banks, and theaters—joined in a coordinated push led by Chairman Harold Potts and committee members.
Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Davenport hosted relatives during Christmas. They welcomed Mrs. Carl Kean and family of Albany and Mrs. D. F. Barklow of Halsey, Ore. Mrs. Barklow is the mother of the two sisters.
After two recent elections the city formerly known as Marshfield officially becomes Coos Bay on January 1. A December 28 special vote confirmed the change 64 to 683, with interest across the county. The November ballot also approved adopting a manager form of city government beginning this year.
An extension symposium will convene on the 8th at Coos Bay High School room 106. Instructors include Dr N. B. Bee and Dean Buena Maris with topics on human relations family acting hygiene venereal infections and more. Classes run two evenings weekly for five weeks with a final exam offering credit or audit for five dollars.

The Coos Marketing Association will hold a meeting at the LO. OF in Coquille next Monday at 11 00 am. R H Christensen notes the session will cover marketing access and improving ports for livestock.
Grady Johnson assumed leadership of the liquor store replacing J. E. Sewell who managed there since earlier moves. John L. Walhex district supervisor for the State Liquor Central Commission arranged the change. Mr Walker spoke to a Rotary club at noon.
Deputy IRS collectors J. H. Bowen and Clyde E. Deal announce a traveling schedule to aid farmers with Form 1040ES for 1944. They will hold sessions at the IOOF Hall Brookings on January 6 and nearby towns including Gold Beach, Myrtle Point, Bandon, Coquille, and Coos Bay post office building from January 6 to 16, with locations in Curry County and adjacent communities.
