Downtown Myrtle Point hosts a big sale weekend with many local merchants offering low prices on quality merchandise. The event runs Friday and Saturday with wide participation and special offers for home town shoppers.
Tom Forrest led a public hearing on river pollution and debris in the Coquille. Representatives from the Port of Coquille, Oregon Game Commission, Coos County, BLM, road department, Forest Board, Georgia-Pacific, logging firms, and police discussed laws and cleanup plans with no action taken, finalizing that debris removal will proceed under port action.
City building committee told Myrtle Point council that seven downtown structures including Perkins Hotel and the old Thrift G building may remain in danger for one year. Owners must complete corrective repairs to meet city ordinances or face action after a compulsory reinspection in a year.
Myrtle Point hosts the Pacific Pirates as the Bobcats blank them 81-0 for a second straight shutout. Individual results include Dennis Evans 9 Jerreit, Andy Lancaster 19 0, Bruce Winnins pin, and Mike Mogan 4 0.
Pirate Team 157 Tom Poste defeated Den Smith 4 0. 168 Jerry Stidhem won by forfeit. 178 Al Bartlett won by forfeit. 191 Bob Myatt won by forfeit. Hat Dick Mooney won by forfeit.
Stanley Peter Cupinski died Wednesday morning February 18 at age 79. Born in Baltimore, he was survived by his wife Minnie. sons Albert of Myrtle Point, Paul of Bandon, and Donald of Charleston. daughters Mrs. Alice Bowers of Eu South Carolina and Mrs. Mary of Vallejo California. sisters Mrs. Joe Fritz of South Bend Indiana and Mrs. E B Rockstead of Ashland. nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
A $75 award is sponsored for senior girls by 29 Coos County home extension. Applications may be obtained from the Coos County extension office by April.

Sydney L. Chandler a Coos Bay attorney has announced his bid for the Republican nomination to represent the Seventh District of Coos and Curry Counties. He would challenge incumbent Democratic Senator Reid Chapman of Coos Bay. Chandler studied at Georgetown University and Sheppard University Law in Washington DC and has served in local civic groups including the Lions Club.
Becky Carl Wiss, daughter of Mr and Mrs Melden Carl of Ara Go, is attending Biola College in Los Angeles California where she enrolled as a freshman last year.
