The Music Education Association hosts a Jazz Festival on Saturday February 8 at Myrtle Crest gym. Students will work with trombonist Gerry Kenny during the day and several bands will perform with Kenny in the evening concert.
Mrs. Jadith Rackleff received a commendation letter and pin after twenty years as a Red Cross Bloodmobile volunteer with the Myrtle Point Chapter. The blood program relies on sixteen volunteer workers.
The group discussed Pioneer House as a juvenile detention site, Myrtle Point clean up week and Rotary potluck. Dan Woolley was named chair pro tem as Lee Walker resigns. Blood drive volunteers sought and long serving staff named. Gerry Kean, a Brooklyn born artist, headlines a day of clinics and an evening concert with bands from multiple towns.
A committee resolution outlines the East West Highway Committee goals to complete a highway system to serve Southern Oregon. It lists priorities: Highway 42, Highway 19 from North Bend to Reedsport, and Highway 38, aiming to promote growth and diversify rural economies.
George Gallup Jr. will give a free public lecture February 6 at the Marshfield High School auditorium at 7 pm. His talktitled The Mood of the American Voter will explore presidential campaign dynamics. He is co author with Carl Kavalege of a book on the 1972 campaign.
A stress symposium planned by MHAG will occur Saturday February 15. The all day event starts with registration at 9 a.m. in the South Coast area. The afternoon addresses feature Dr Patrick Fraleigh from Lane Community College and Dr Susan Gilmore from the University of Oregon. Local participants from the Campus Day for Women conference will join.
Leo Schmidt, six year lineman representative for Pacific Power in Myrtle Point, braves wind storms to restore electricity. He covers Myrtle Point and Powers, aided by Sempert’s Drug as a pay stake, and runs a mobile office from his truck. Beyond work, he captains the Myrtle Point Volunteer Fire Department and leads local groups while balancing family and civic duties.

The Coos County League of Women Voters begins its 1975 planning for the March 31 annual meeting. A recommended study item is the Coos County budget with non recommended topics including judicial system library public transportation county home rule and the legal status of children. Committees led by Louise Fritz Flora Burch and Valerie Taylor plan budget and nominations activities for March.
Forestry specialist John Garland will discuss logging for woodland owners at the first session of a four part extension forestry short course. The event is Thursday February 13 at 7:20 p.m. at the extension office in Coquille. The Coos County Small Woodlands Association will hold its annual meeting prior to the session.
