Security Bank Merger Prospects Hinge On Board Action

Security Western Prospects of a merger with Western Bank remained uncertain after an annual meeting of Security Bank stockholders in Coos Bay. A Western Bank proposal was discussed but would need a board vote before submission to stockholders. Wallace Dement, proxy for former president Harry Dement, refused to indicate support.

Bank merger details emerge with Western Bank ties

Cementing support for a possible merger, two Western Bank officials who hold stock in both institutions were present. Andy Newhouse, Western Bank lawyer, and Carl Sandstrom, Western Bank controller, joined Security Bank directors Frank Heary and F A Perkins along with executive vice president Charles Poehlitz in the discussion.

Security Bank elects Sam Dement president as merger talks loom

The board, meeting Saturday, elected Sam Dement as president replacing Harry Dement. F A Perkins and Frank R Henry named vice president and secretary. New directors Hollis Mast Elton Schroeder and Dr H H Thomas join a seven member board, replacing Dement and others. The bank plans a Coquille branch with a $90,000 building 60 percent complete, deadline April 1.

Mortgages Value in Coos County January Totals Lead by Western Bank

Security Bank of Coos County based in Myrtle Point recorded four real estate mortgages in Coos County valued at 171 000 during January ranking second among lending institutions for the month. Western Bank headed the list with 15 mortgages valued 2 812 878.01. A total of GA mortgages valued at 1 003 490 were recorded in Coos County during the month, compared to 66 mortgages at 2 231 410.10 for January 1970. Other lenders listed include United States National Bank of Oregon Veterans Affairs Farmers Home Administration Coast Savings & Loan First National Bank of Oregon Budget Industrial Loan Plan Weyerhaeuser Employees FCU and 15 miscellaneous mortgages valued at 116 541.61.

Dimes drive nets $576 in Myrtle Point area

The March of Dimes campaign in Myrtle Point has raised 9 576 and expects additional funds soon. Local chairman Mrs Delbert Leep thanks numerous women who helped with the Mothers March and lists many participants.

Rates on interstate calls approved by FCC

General Telephone customers face new interstate long distance rates authorized by the Federal Communications Commission after AT&T filing. The rates took effect at 12:00 a.m. Tuesday January 36 and show about a 3 percent average increase, the first general rise in interstate long distance in 17 years. The increases apply to all interstate service including calls originated by independent non Bell companies. Interstate calls connect states.

Myrtle Point Chamber approves 2275 budget for 1971

Members of the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce meet at the Colony Restaurant and approve a 2275 budget for 1971. Treasurer Milton Schroeder reports 762 in dues this week. President Leroy Robinson asks for new members and names Charles Poeblitz to the city council finance committee advisory role.

Coast Guard air station sought by Packwood

Senator Bob Packwood introduced legislation to establish a permanent Coast Guard air station at Coos Bay Oregon. An initial $4.2 million appropriation would fund barracks hangar fuel systems and aircraft plus engineering and electronic packages with three light twin engine aircraft and ten officers. Recurring costs would total about $800,000 annually.

Helen Hervey Promoted to Manager at U S National Bank Eugene

Helen G. Hervey has been promoted to manager of the Eugene Account Service Center at United States National Bank. Announcement by C W Pitkin Jr says she joined S National in 1961 at Eugene Main Branch, transferred to River Road Branch in 1962, led the MICA unit at the Eugene center in 1966, a Myrtle Point native with three children and residing on Mayewood Ave in Eugene.

Eleven teacher aides join Myrtle Point district
