Bob Sheedy, Myrtle Point station man for the Telephone Co, has purchased the S W Greer garbage business and leased the Greer farm. He will take over the venture at year end and aims for cooperation equal to Greer. He will collect garbage in the evenings after work. Pvt Jack R Sperry at Ft Knox Ky called December 23 to his wife and relatives. the call took ten minutes. He hopes for Coos County weather and earned an expert rifleman medal.
Ernie and Bud Evans, long time Ashland truck drivers, spent holidays with friends and will depart Monday for Crescent City to visit parents. Ernie will then travel to San Francisco for a medical and induction exam for service. Meanwhile Norwood Browne and wife returned from Eugene after Christmas and plan to visit relatives in Tillamook, though Browne fell ill with flu. Others in the community include the Thorpes and Mrs. Bailey visiting Myrtle Point, Jerrene Burgess and sister returning from Seattle to visit Burgess relatives, and McNey family noting typhoid recovery at Mast hospital for Misses Weicidele Strong and Eileen Strong.
Mr. and Mrs. ee Rickard and their four month old Ruth Aileen arrived Tuesday from Spokane to visit the Barkers in Myrtle Point. After the first of the year Mr. Rickard will begin business in Cottage Grove.
Miss Josephua Devoe daughter of W W Devoe has joined the marines and is to report for a two week furlough before training in North Carolina. She has worked in Sacramento for five years. In other notes local families and visitors share Christmas greetings and reunions.
F. J. Schneidge of Tishee reports securing oil leases for the Jergins Oil Co of Los Angeles in the Rogue River region. Jergins, a longtime Oregon advocate for wildlife, is described as a producer not a speculator, financing the project himself with no stock sale. Drilling is planned to begin when weather allows in spring.
