The Myrtle Point Lions Club hosts a New Year’s Eve event at the Community building this Saturday. Dancing from 9 30 p m to 1 30 a m with the Dick Anderson Orchestra, admission 3 50 includes buffet, hats, and favors. Invitees only. Lions may bring guests. Oregon Sees Strong Economic Growth Through 1960s

The Oregon Department of Planning and Development predicts 1960s growth based on a 12 percent rise in nonagricultural jobs over the past decade and 93 new plants in 1960 creating about 8 700 jobs. Programs include space industry development, expanded promotions, and community development efforts, with 21 industrial development corporations and 140 prospecting firms involved.

Sitkum resident Walter D King won $500 in the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce Stop and Shop campaign. The drawing prize grew over four drawings with no winner present. The next draw offers $100 and will be held Saturday January 14 if a winner is present. Mr King collected the prize at Myers and Myers department store and said he was delighted to be present. He is a lawyer with Schintier Logging.

A two week walkout by telephone workers paused on Saturday for temporary relief while the union studies a fresh offer from the company. The proposal aims to end the strike with a signed contract, but rejection would push the stoppage to continue, says local shop steward Orrell.
