T. M. Hermann an early Coos County settler died Thursday evening at his son George’s Broadbent home aged 83 years. Born January 8 1845 in Allegany Maryland he came west as a youth and settled in the area. He leaves five sons and four daughters and numerous grandchildren. The funeral was Sunday at the family cemetery in Broadbent with Elder C. H Barklow and the Myrtle Point Grand Army post assisting.
Almas Mack Arnold died at his Myrtle Point home after a week with bronchitis and pneumonia. He served in Co E First Connecticut Cavalry from 1862 to 1866 and was a longtime town character who kept up with local affairs. Arnold, born August 18 18xx in Knoxville Tennessee, married Catherine Dolan in 1881 and lived in Baker City before moving to Cope county.
Bankers Y Tabanan Irs Eva Carver John Dick Arnold and Mrs Nile of Myrtle Point will join six grandchildren and four great grandchildren at funeral services Monday at 2 pm at Gehrosder chapel with Rev Terner MacDonald of the Christian Church presiding. Burial follows in Norway cemetery. American Legion to have a part in the services.
Rain began Sunday ending a long stretch of cold weather with temperatures down to 28. A Monday wind tore down wires and broke windows delaying shopping until power returned at four. Two storefronts suffered damage while shoppers continued braving the downpour, and loggers smiled at the wet relief.
A Chevrolet coupe driven by a middle aged woman plunged off the Roseburg highway into the river near the dam, settled in twenty feet of water, and the driver swam to shore after opening the car door. The car was recovered next day. no injuries to the driver were reported.
Miss Verna Hart married Albert Davenport in a Sunday afternoon ceremony conducted by Rev. Omer Idso at the bride’s sister Mrs Frank Porter home. Attendants included Ellen Henry of Athena Oregon as bridesmaid and Leland Barklow as best man. The couple plans a trip to Portland and other points before settling at Hart apartments on Sprece Street.

The Southern Pacific ran a special mail train to Powers to serve the region after a bridge south of Yellow Creek was washed out by last night’s storm. Auto buses ferried mail from Marshfeld to Powers, as the train provided the sole passage today.
The Royal Neighbors and the Modern Woodmen with families plan their annual Christmas supper and tree at Schroeder hall next Monday at 7.50 PM. The event is a well awaited gathering for fellowship and fun.
