Local families welcomed Army officers and students during Christmas. Lieut W. A. Haselwood of Hamilton Field visited his parents in Oregon, while Arthur R. Assessor J P Byers announced Coos County taxes for 1841 total 91 230 757 against 1 316 346 in 10, reflecting an 6.4 percent decrease. The two year savings total about 158 000, excluding small fire patrol and drainage district taxes.

Santa Ads To Xmas For Kids

Myrtle Point's youngest generation showed little appetite for holiday turkey as candy and nuts from Santa filled appearances around town. His debut on Saturday led to chameleon like reappearances at various times and places, confusing trusting youngsters, until midnight Tuesday when he quietly departed in his sleigh to a snow castle to rest with goodwill left behind until December 25, 841.

Myrtle Point Enjoys Record Christmas Trade

After a record Christmas trade, Myrtle Point merchants closed Tuesday night and many citizens took Wednesday off to celebrate at home. Postmaster Elton Schroeder reports post-Christmas business to be at the highest level on record with a steady rise over the years. Local social and civic groups wrapped up a full program of Christmas activities as dozens of homes hosted gatherings on Christmas Day.

Church Watch Night Service Welcomes Family Program

The Church of the Brethren holds a watch night service Tuesday at 8:00 pm with a family relations program for fathers and sons after games and refreshments. At 11:30 pm a candle lighting service in the main auditorium concludes with a church bell signaling the New Year.
