Death of Rev W A Couden Pastor Emeritus of Local Church

The Rev W A Couden aged 68 died at his home in Coos Bay Tuesday with the Rev Oscar Porte presiding at the funeral services. He was a retired pastor of the local Presbyterian church for years and was born April 3, 1873 in Bloomfield Iowa. He is survived by his widow and three children Harold and Orville Couden of San Leandro California and Mrs Ellen Walters of Greenville California. Bearers included Rev Griffith Rev Richard Reedsport Rev Cofeen Myrtle Point Rev Elmer Rosenkilde Bandon Rev Maurice Roseburg Rev Phil Ryan. Couden grew up in Bienfield and studied in Chicago at Moody Institute. He toured Illinois as an evangelist for several years before taking a church in Northern Minnesota. He served as a minister in Oregon for over 35 years.

The Myrtle Point Herald traces its lineage from the 1868 founding as the Myrtle Point Enterprise to the Southern Coos County American and finally the Myrtle Point Herald. Current owners Mr and Mrs J Logan White took over in 1946 with Ada Lemon, W A Hemmelgarn Jr, Harold Bargett, and George Lockwood on staff.

Lumber Firm And Driver Sued For Over $10,000

Mrs. Louise Carré files suit for 10000 general damages and 203 special damages against Coos Bay Lumber Company and driver Keith Halversott. She alleges Halversott, driving a truck for the lumber firm, forced her car off the highway and over an embankment about a quarter mile north of here last October 15, damaging the Carver.
