City to pave new streets under state and federal rules

Office N Now Open Here for Ration Requests

A new ration office opens to handle gas sugar and other rationing matters from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and Saturday. Austin Dodge local board member oversees the office with Harold Brown Powers area. The county court supported the setup and will cover expenses. Others on the board include J Arther Berg Coquille and Wesley Chappel of Bandon.

Church Group Plans Curfew Ordinance in Myrtle Point

The Church Fellowship meeting at the Methodist church discussed seeking a curfew law to keep children and youths home by nine or nine thirty, unless with a parent or guardian. A petition may be filed or a delegation sent to meet the council. The blackout and military detachment cited as factors for action. About 150 attended, with a program and a farewell blanket for Rev. and Mrs. Mitchellmore departing for Klamath Falls.

Junior Play Friday Night at the High School

Tomorrow evening at 8 o clock the junior class presents the play Dont Take My Penny at the high school. The event aims to entertain students and families with a light comedy performance.

Stores Dressed Up For Christmas Shopping Trade

Myrtle Point merchants have decorated for the holiday season as shops gear up for Christmas. About twenty local merchants scramble to stock gifts despite lines being cut and some goods unavailable. Buyers started weeks ago, and shoppers appear ready to spend more than in prior years despite supply difficulties.

Roberts Opens New Real Estate Office in Barker Building

Ed C. Roberts moved his library and office from city hall to a remodeled suite in the Barker building on Spruce street next to the Bakery. He plans to devote full time to real estate interdice law practice after two terms as city recorder, a post now held by Amity Parrish. Roland Bowers recently bought the Roberts building from the Barker estate and remodeled it for a barber shop and office suite. Pvt Elgie C Hazelton received furlough from Camp Carson Colorado after visiting his mother, then left four days later as his brother in law Bud Sperry’s illness worsened. Hazelton was drafted two months ago, spent time at Camp Lewis, Washington, and was transferred to Camp Carson, Colorado.

John Felsher Mourns Loss Of Battleship Oregon

John Felsher recalls the Oregon battleship, in care of Oregon since 1899, its historic voyage around the Horn and role in sinking Maria Teresa during the Spanish–American War. The 73 year old Navy veteran lives near Myrtle Point and notes his son Stanley is missing in the Philippines during World War II.

World at War lecture by Dr Dubach inspires Union high students

Students and faculty at Union High School packed the auditorium at 8 30 am to hear Dr A G Dubach dean of men at OFS speak on the World at War. The noted lecturer, who had been visiting the county, was invited by civic groups and plans to repeat the talk at the Washington school auditorium in Coquille at 9 pm. Meanwhile local reports note steelhead fishing near Broadbent with salmon eggs as likely bait as water levels rose.

A program arranged by Mrs H Clarke featured three cast members and afternoon performances. Old time selections were sung by A L Volkmar and Ellsworth Readsrs, with readings by Mrs Jenpie Neideigh and Mrs Nellie Ray. A Christeses talbaliene and musical eee were also included.
